After looking around the Seattle Armory for a bit, this place seemed to have the best reviews, so decided to go here. We ended up splitting the Seafood Sampler Platter, which came with two fried oysters, two fried shrimp, two fried cod pieces, fries, and old bay and tartar sauces
This place has some really good fried seafood. The oyster had the lightest breading of the bunch, but retained its very fishy taste throughout, and even felt a little bit fresh despite sitting in the batter. On the contrary, the shrimp was more heavily breaded, but it was massive - maybe the biggest shrimp I've eaten. There was so much meat to it despite being under that layer. My favorite was the cod though, which is some of the best fried fish I've had. The breading was crunchy and thick, but the inside of the fish was truly great - it was unbelievably moist, and a joy to eat. On the outside, like each of the different seafood, the oiliness was apparent, indicating it was fried very well
I did have some small negatives though. Firstly, I thought there could've been way more seasoning involved. Second, the fries were very average - they were a little soggy and wimpy. Lastly, the old bay and tartar sauces had no real flavor to them - mostly both just tasting like mayo and orange mayo
For the $30 that we shared, we got an absolutely massive bucket, which was a large enough portion size to absolutely be worth the $15 each
Overall, the Armory is a bunch of overpriced restaurants that aren't that good, but this isn't one of...
Read moreI may have missed this spot the last few times I came to the Seattle Center for the ballet or special events, but so glad we got to eat here today. I'm a fan of fish and chips and Matt's does it just about right. We ordered the beer battered Alaskan Cod basket along with the shrimp + crab fries for an upgrade of $7.
These were all made to order including the fries and came out super hot and fresh. The cod was a generous 3 piece at 6 oz each, fresh, huge slab of tender meat, lightly coated and golden brown. These were perfect and the tartar sauce is delicious 🤤. The shrimp basket also came with 3 surprisingly jumbo shrimps. This was also a hit. Lastly the Crab Fries is another item you may need to upgrade on. Lots of generous crab meat covered the fries on top and in between. This is not fake crab folks. It was lightly seasoned and the fries were still crunchy and golden brown.
I would say this is the only place I'd return to for another quick bite at the Seattle Center. No wonder there was a huge line. The tables that were eating at Matt's demolished their meals. The other places I've visited were a huge disappointment. Erin who works at the front is super nice and pretty patient when it comes to answering questions. Thanks for a...
Read moreThe food was next level awful. The bread on the fish was mushy. The fish just taste like beer and was only edible when you remove the breadding. The fries were hard, luke-warm and terrible. We paid extra to add garlic crab to the fries. You couldn't taste any garlic. It was literally just crab on fries. The chowder had so much oil on the top, you would think it was an added sauce. Thats what I thought it was, but then realized to my horror that it was a ton of oil on top of chowder. I tried to mix it in.... honestly, I should've just thrown it out. That's what happened after I suffered through trying it. The costumer service was horrid. You would think we personally attacked the woman that helped us or that we were the ones providing costumer service. We tried to just remain positive through the interaction. We got fountain drinks and had to ask for lids and straws which was fine at first. I mean we all forget sometimes, but she gave them to us with absolute silent treatment and an attitude. All of that to spend 50+dollars and have this experience. We should've taken the hint when there was no line. Please save your money and take it elsewhere. I wouldn't wish this...
