Just left the store with 2 friends who had never been before, and what was supposed to be a treat turned into a very awkward and uncomfortable experience.
On Halloween day, we walked in - the only 3 customers in the store, excited for ice cream but overwhelmed by decision. The only girl working the counter seemed less than enthused to be there at all, but the real giveaway was when we asked about her favourite flavour and her response was “I don’t really like ice cream” (or something to that effect).
She did, however, offer us a taste of flavours we were deciding between. I asked for a kiddie scoop of ice cream, knowing that I would never finish it, while my friends ordered a single scoop each. As she was scooping mine, I looked at the size of the scoop and, in surprise, simply exclaimed “oh wow, that’s a kiddie scoop?!” to which she then said something about being micromanaged.
Unsure about what just happened, I clarified that I just wasn’t sure about the sizing and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to finish that much. She replied “well you don’t have to, just throw it out” but with a tone that made it clear she was over it. My 2 friends, now feeling like they had to walk on eggshells, paid in silence. I really enjoyed the ice cream, but the experience left me feeling really taken aback… I don’t know that I would come back, nor would I recommend it to...
Read moreI went to Molly Moon’s last year and had some amazing flavors for a fairly reasonable price. But this year, I went, and a single scoop of ice cream with no frills, no cone, and no toppings came out to $7.44. On the menu, it was listed as $6.25 which is still pretty steep but more reasonable for expensive ice cream.
When it came out to $7.44, my mind split in half. As a minimum wage worker, I’m happy that Molly Moon’s found a way to be able to pay their employees super well. On the other hand, all I could think about was how that single scoop was worth a half hour of my wage.
The ice cream was tragically amazing and I enjoyed every single bite even though I felt so wounded by the exorbitant prices. The employees were great too.
All in all, amazing ice cream, but if you’re not currently making big bills, don’t come here because you’ll just be thinking about how the milkshake in your hand costs you $15 as my friend did. Fortunately, I’m starting a new job that isn’t minimum wage soon, so I’ll be able to enjoy MM’s again without the financial burden.
I love to see a small business thrive, but please be careful y’all, don’t come here if you’re tight on funds but still want a...
Read moreSome of the best ice cream I've ever had. Their salted caramel is fantastic- easily one of my (if not my definitive) favorite ice cream flavor(s) in the States... it's incredibly salty, with probably twice the salt content of an ordinary "salted caramel", and is thus somewhat of an acquired taste... but there simply isn't anything like it in the world and it's fantastic. If you're outside of Seattle, QFC stores often stock pints of their salted caramel... and unlike their knockoff "Top Pot" doughnuts, it's every bit as good as it is in-store. Other flavor suggestions include honey lavender and their seasonal blackberry option. Their waffle cones make the experience even better- thick, chewy, melt-in-your-mouth homemade cones. It's definitely a bit pricey, even for Seattle (a split single scoop will set you back $6.50 plus tax, with an extra $1.50 for one of their cones), but it's worth it as hell... besides, most shops are tip-free, and the restaurant pays more than a fair wage to compensate... which, if you're a 15% or 20% tipper, can definitely serve to offset the upfront charge...
