I’m a frequent customer at North Star Diner since moving to Greenlake, discovered this place completely by accident; I was instantly impressed with the amazing food. Growing up my parents owned a greasy spoon with a similar menu. Lots of comfort foods and a great eggs benedict. Admittedly the men’s room always stinks and could use some re-engineering. Today I woke up to a phone call from a friend. Her dog was diagnosed with advanced stage liver cancer 2 weeks ago and I’ve been caring for the dog Willow during the day so she can work. This morning it was clear the dog will need to be put down today. Also last night I was surprised to discover I have a potentially life threatening health condition so I’m scared and heart broken. I wanted a nice warm breakfast and a cold brew coffee. They don’t serve cold so I ordered and asked the server if she minded if I went across the street to buy one and come back. She said “sure no problem” I was back in about 5 min. The owner came out and told me he doesn’t allow outside beverages. I told him we visit at 3 or 4 times a month and every time I bring this drink or my coffee mug since they do not serve it. I asked if he’d like me to leave. I’m not clear his response but I told him my situation this morning. He either didn’t seem to comprehend the sadness and hurt I was experiencing or he’s completely insensitive. and while smiling again asserted his policy. I walked out after telling him he should spend a few bucks and fix his disgusting bathroom problem. To me the food is only half, service, kindness and sensitivity and treating a fellow human suffering a heartbreaking...
Read moreAlright, buckle up, because I'm about to sing the praises of my absolute favorite diner! If you're looking for a slice of classic Americana, with food that tastes like a warm hug and service that's faster than a greased lightning bolt, look no further.
This place is a gem, a true throwback to a time when diners were the heart of the community. I've dragged countless friends here, and every single one has left with a satisfied grin and a full belly. The food? Forget about it. We're talking perfectly cooked everything. Crispy bacon, fluffy pancakes, juicy burgers that transport you straight to your childhood. Seriously, I've never had a single dish that wasn't spot-on.
But it's not just the food that keeps me coming back. The service is lightning-fast, like they've got some kind of diner-magic going on in the kitchen. You order, and before you know it, your plate is steaming hot and ready to devour. And the staff? They're always friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home.
Location-wise, it's a dream. Easy to find, with plenty of parking nearby, which is a huge bonus. In a world of fast-casual chains and overly trendy eateries, this diner is a breath of fresh air. It's the kind of place you can relax, enjoy a good meal, and soak in the nostalgic atmosphere. Honestly, they just don’t make diners like this anymore. So, if you're craving a taste of the real deal, do yourself a favor and check it out. You won't be...

Have been here numerous times, mostly at night. Came by one evening recently for dinner, fell flat. Had a few sandwiches, an appetizer, a shake. Our shake was very thin and lacked whipped cream, a crime in our mind. We were provided whipped cream somewhat promptly, it too was thin, more like wimped cream. The smothered fries were tasty, but had only one or two tiny chunks of pork. Sandwiches arrived and were pretty decent (though the guacamole didn't dazzle), though one of our onion rings (20% of the serving) was ice cold in the middle. We shared this news with our server, who agreed that a frozen ring would be inedible and continued on with their evening. This was a great example of service, which was fast in terms of order-taking and food delivery, though maybe spread too thin to be really attentive to the amount of guests that evening.
Still, I'd come to this spot over the nearby Beth's for a night time visit. Beth's wins in the charm department and is cheaper, North Star has yet to be visited in the same numbers or volume levels by the under-25 party crowd on any night I've been there. I can't wait for the next night-time visit, we'll grab a booth, order a coffee and maybe...
