We finally got to check out Phê last week. Our foods and drinks are all amazing. Phe is a perfect combination of authentic Vietnamese food and drinks with creative modern twists. We ordered 3 brunches dishes and 3 drinks. For food, we ordered xoi man (Vietnamese sticky rice), bo kho (slow braised beef) and sate noodle. Their food portions are generous. The xoi man is perfect brunch dish and tasted very authentic, just like the one I had in Vietnam. My favorite dish is the slow braised beef served with toasty baguette. The beef is so tender and flavorful. It melted in your mouth when served on a crunchy baguettes, making it a perfect bite. I finished everything in my plate. The sate noodle is very yummy. The chewy noodle mixed well with very flavorful sauce and just the right amount of spice. We LOVE LOVE LOVE our drinks. We ordered phê bắp(corn cream coffee), phê keo (candy coffee) and phe me(sesame coffee). My husband had phê keo, which he said it was very delicious. Vietnamese coffee blend with caramel candy and homemade toffee crunch bring it to the next level. He drank so quick I didn’t get a chance to take picture. If you are sesame lover like me then you would love the phe me. I finished my cup within 5 minutes. The sweetness is just right. fragrance sesame cream in the coffee is exceptional. Our friend got the phe bắp (corn coffee). She said the flavor is very unique and creative. The corn cream is very creamy and sweet that perfectly paired with coffee. We are now a fan of Phe and will be their regulars. Can’t wait to be back next week to try their other...
Read moreIn all honesty, I’d like to give 3 stars for the price and how expensive it can be. But the decor is amazing for what it is in Capitol Hill and is a frequent go to place. At the same time, I would still like to offer some constructive feedback.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the drinks are steep in price. A small cup of Hojicha latte is definitely delicious, nutty and aromatic, but the quantity itself is small for what you’re paying for. So, it’s not necessarily something I order again for the value.
The food is definitely expensive. My friend got the sticky rice bowl. The lack of meat and rice for $15 is definitely less worth it. The sizes feel like it’s a quick breakfast snack. Needless to say my friend didn’t order again and would rather stick to drinks.
I have ordered the meat banh mi’s. The bread is toasted, which is perfect for dine in. There was very little meat. I almost wanted to return this back to the kitchen when I noticed only a 1cm thickness of the protein at the beginning. Eventually I did see another thin slice of meat. Looking at it generally, again, the sizes are lacking. Furthermore, the protein looks like cold cut meats only, instead of braised pork with pork ham. It would definitely be better if there was actual real protein, at least give the full size of the meat instead of a super thin slice. It’s as if I’m eating a vegetable sandwich and I hope that wasn’t the intention.
I’m conflicted. But, Capitol Hill needs more businesses like this, so I’m hopping they continue to improve...
Read moreI haven’t even tried their matcha yet, but all my friends swear on their mothers that it’s the best matcha ever. So obviously, it’s on my list.
I stopped by over the weekend during Pride celebrations so I try their coffee—and also because they had a promo: spend $35, get a free tote bag. The finance bro in me couldn’t resist. If I didn’t get that tote, my mom would rise from the grave just to kill me.
So I got: ☕ 3 drinks 🍙 2 spam musubi 🥖 1 banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) — saved the musubi for later.
Let me tell you, their black sesame coffee? Insane. Nutty, creamy foam paired with strong, balanced espresso. I’ve never had anything like it. The salted cream coffee was rich and bold too. And my friend said their fruit tea slapped—refreshing and just sweet enough.
But now… the banh mi. It’s that OG Vietnamese style. Warm, crusty bread, loaded with pate, cold cuts, cucumbers, pickled veggies—the works. Every bite almost made me cry. I was only planning to eat half. Five minutes later, it was gone. I was full, happy, and spiritually changed.
Fast forward: we partied hard until midnight. I was tipsy, starving, and everything was closed. Then I remembered… the musubi. Sitting in my free tote bag like a little miracle.
I kid you not—it saved my life. The rice was still soft, spam + egg + creamy avocado still hit. In that moment, I knew the true...
