We ended a half day adventure in Fremont here at Red Star Taco Bar and were very excited with the vegetarian too options. It was a seat yourself affair when we arrived and the staff was very friendly staff. Also kudos to the restaurant for labeling vegetarian items with a “V” on the menu! The two, delicious vegetarian tacos they had (and which we availed ourselves with) were the Honey Siracha Tofu which was very flavorful and well balanced with sweet and spicy flavors, and the Sweet Potato Black Bean which came on house-made corn tortillas. We had rice and beans on the side…sadly the refried beans are not vegetarian, though they do have black beans which are, and which are flavorful. (I’m mainly a refried/pinto kind of guy though.) The rice was a little bland though. The tortilla chips they serve are house made…they were a little salty but good, and they came with a house made red salsa which had a good kick to it. Well done. The tacos were plenty of reason for us to want to come back if we ever found ourselves in Fremont again. Hurrah!

I want to start off by saying the food was amazing.Very Flavorful, good portion sizes and pricing is just right. Get there early as it seems the chicken wings are popular and sell out quickly. I took 2 stars off since this was a TOGO order and the guacamole as well as 2 quesadillas were missing from the 3 packs we ordered. It wouldn't matter if those 2 items weren't on my receipt and paid for. Genelle my waitress was also very nice, courteous and accommodating. This is the 2nd time this has happened since vacationing in Seattle. I am starting to feel like its a hazing of tourist. Getting to this restaurant was a maze to say the least so getting back in order to get refunded on missing items is a task to say the least. I would call but no one answers the phone number listed.

Great spot for a snack, dinner or after-work happy hour. Classic or creative taco options for mom and pop or pop-stars looking to impress with their delish Insta pix. Korean BBQ Beef,Bacon Cheeseburger, and Buffalo Chicken tacos were inspired and will keep me coming back for more. The mocktail that riffed on Pina Colada is a most refreshing treat. Server was very accommodating and thoughtful. Gluten or dairy free and vegetarian requirements easily accommodated. Free street parking available within a block or three in a neighborhood that is very walkable, with delightful boutiques and street art, and feels safe day or night. Ask about spice levels as there are a few surprises (refried beans were muy caliente) with heat levels not marked on menu.

The food was decent, the establishment was cute and nice to sit at and our host was very friendly. Our waitress was a different experience, she was not very friendly and kept forgetting things. She started off by walking away after we told her that we were ready to order, then finally taking our orders for a party of four and forgot our fourth member. Once reminded she said she already sent the food to the kitchen and now it would come out at different times. The single persons food came out almost immediately while the other three of us were left waiting. She also did not provide any straws or utensils and seemed bothered the whole time. I assumed it was just a busy day and tried not to let it bother me. However once the check came we did one bill and told her the other person would take care of the tip so I had put $0 in for the tip because we were leaving cash. Within 3 minutes of taking my payment she comes back and starts asking me in a very rude manor what could have possibly been so bad to not leave a tip on a $140 dollar bill. She then said I know I forgot multiple things but what would make you do that. I was baffled that she was even approaching me about this and just said that we were leaving cash. She said oh and just walked away without an apology for the accusation and unnecessary confrontation. I ended up leaving a much smaller tip than we were originally going to because of this and we will not be coming back. After working in food service for many years I try to be understanding but nobody should be confronted for not tipping as it is a choice and unless stated, not a requirement. EDIT Melissa had reached out to me and has gone above and beyond to right what happened during my visit. With her efforts and the taste of the food and cute vibe I am upping my rating. I hope that the next time we visit it will be awesome and thank you so much Melissa for all...

On my girlfriends birthday we had a terrible experience tonight. After a 14 hour flight from a work trip, I specifically arrived here to get some food with my girlfriend (at midnight it was already her bday) at red star taco since it was the only thing opened at 12:30 am. I was there with my girlfriend waiting to order something and I put the head on the table for 5 seconds when the waiter came to say that I can’t do that and I asked me to leave the place. Apparently they have a policy for this, I have never in my whole life had such a bad experience in a restaurant before. i asked him what his concerns were; & my girlfriend stepped in to explain we don’t even drink & i had flown from a different country to see her on her birthday since it was midnight. She also explained she didnt have a good experience last time with her birthday when she came & he djdnt seem to care about is not having a great experience today.

He didnt even ask me first how i am and if everything was okay to then later explain his policy he instead confronted me very straight forward what i cannot not do and then i would have to leave. Terrible and rude from the restaurant service/specifically the server.

My most important feedback to the owner js to educate or give intense training to the server on how to specifically address talking to guest/client by starting off with being worm and welcoming, to also be curious and gather information from the guest to really read and understand the circumstance, and then kindly and eloquently and decently explain the policy, without using unwelcoming language and aggressive repercussions about kicking someone out for resting their head at the table.

You all didn’t know what we had to go through to get to the restaurant nor...
