From Excited to Invisible: A Disappointing Return to Vons 1000 Spirits
We drove all the way from Olympia to Seattle for date night and were genuinely excited to return to Vons 1000 Spirits. The first time we came, we were served by Connor, who was absolutely fantastic. His service left such a great impression that we chose to come back—unfortunately, this time couldn’t have been more different.
From the moment we arrived, our assigned server—a man with dreadlocks—made us feel invisible. He didn’t greet us, didn’t introduce himself, and made no effort to engage. In contrast, he was extremely attentive and warm to the white couple seated next to us. My husband even asked him, “How are you?”—and he ignored him completely.
We ordered appetizers first. When they were ready, our server was nowhere to be found, so the manager had to bring them to our table. Still, he never checked in to ask if we needed anything else, if we wanted refills, or how the food was—because he didn’t bring it and never returned.
Later, we ordered two burgers from him. I asked, “Is everything okay?” just to try to break the ice or lighten the mood. His response? A flat, emotionless “Busy,” and then he walked away. No eye contact, no basic courtesy.
When the burgers came out, they were brought by Connor, the amazing server from our first visit. Seeing him again was honestly the only positive part of the entire night. Unfortunately, the burgers were missing cheese, which they were supposed to come with. I tried to wave someone down, but we were ignored again. I eventually asked Connor if he could get the manager.
When the manager came over, I explained that our assigned server’s behavior had made us feel singled out and discriminated against. Her response? She offered us a dessert to make up for the poor treatment. And when I mentioned the missing cheese, she agreed to remove the burgers from the bill.
But by then, the damage was done. We left feeling humiliated, unimportant, and completely disrespected. The server had a sticker covering his name, which made it impossible to identify him directly—and it felt like the manager thought a free dessert was an acceptable trade for the way we were treated.
This was supposed to be a special evening—we had just come from a comedy show in Tacoma and made the drive specifically to enjoy a good dinner. Instead, we were made to feel like we didn’t belong.
I truly hope this restaurant takes feedback seriously, trains their staff accordingly, and understands that racism—whether subtle or direct—has no place in the service industry or...
Read moreI recently had an outstanding dining experience at Von's 1,000 Spirits in Seattle, and it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The decor is stylish, and the ambiance strikes a perfect balance between casual and upscale, making it an ideal spot for any occasion.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the food. I started with the sourdough pizza "Lil Pep," which was a revelation. The pizza features little pepperonis, whole milk mozzarella, peppadews, Sicilian spice, Calabrian hot honey, and fresh basil. The sourdough crust was perfectly crisp and chewy, providing an excellent base for the flavorful toppings. The combination of spicy and sweet from the Calabrian hot honey and peppadews, along with the rich, creamy mozzarella, made each bite an explosion of flavors. It was a truly unique and delightful pizza experience that I won't soon forget.
In addition to the pizza, I also tried the Crispy Alaskan Cod Tacos, and they were equally impressive. Served on white corn tortillas, the crispy cod was cooked to perfection, with a light and satisfying crunch. The accompanying crisp slaw, pickled red onions, sweet and sour Fresno chiles, fresh cilantro, and scratch guacamole added layers of texture and flavor that elevated the tacos to a new level. Each component was fresh and well-seasoned, creating a harmonious blend that was both refreshing and satisfying.
The service at Von's 1,000 Spirits was exceptional. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, making great recommendations and ensuring that my dining experience was top-notch from start to finish. Their professionalism and warm hospitality added to the overall enjoyment of the meal.
Overall, Von's 1,000 Spirits is a must-visit in Seattle. Whether you're in the mood for an innovative pizza or flavorful tacos, this restaurant delivers with high-quality ingredients, expertly prepared dishes, and outstanding service. I highly recommend it and look forward to...
Read moreI had the sourdough wild cod & chips dish from this spot The menu seems pretty cool - with a lot of interesting options on meat and seafood.
When this came out, i was pleasantly surprised by how large the dish was. the cod piece pretty much stretched across the entire plate, and most of the fries were hidden below it.
Meaty isn't a word you would normally associate with fish, but this certainly was. the breading was quite light, so you really got to enjoy the flavor of the cod itself. It was well-cooked, super moist, and tasted great. The one thing I do wish was the breading could be crunchier, and I prefer it slightly deeper. While it was crackly at certain points, it didn't feel like there was too much flavor coming from the batter. I also thought it could've been seasoned a little more
For the fries (i guess i should say the chips?) they were also pretty good. For one, it was a huge portion of them. They had this slightly soggy exterior, super floppy, and the kind that's also soft on the inside. Similar to a bar fry you might get.
The tartar sauce was fantastic to dip both the cod & chips in. I think they've achieved pretty much the perfect texture for this sauce - it's chunky while not being overly viscous - perfect for soaking up and sticking to whatever fried food you dip in it.
We also got the broccoli as an appetizer, which was good, but a bit too hard for my tastes
For the price, it's relatively expensive - our dinner came out to slightly over $40 with the entree, a drink, and the appetizer. I don't mind this too much
Overall, I generally liked this spot. I wouldn't call it my favorite fish and chips in the city, but I do think...
