My husband and I have been visiting The Sundowner for years. We live in Ohio and travel to Sedona atleast 3-4 times a year. We own the t-shirts and have always bragged about the friendly bartenders and great service. They've always made us feel like locals, UNTIL tonight. My husband recently had a liver transplant and can only drink NA beer. I drink Captain and Coke. I ordered mine and he said "Busch NA". Lindsay the bartender opened and Busch Light and sat it down in front of him and said they were out of NA beer. How does a bartender just open up an alcoholic beer, sit it down and just expect him to drink something he didn't order? I thought that was so rude. She could've told him they were out, first and asked if he had another choice. I told her he can't drink alcoholic beverages. She immediately "mean mugged" him and got an attitude and took it back. Since they were out, I asked her if he could bring his own NA into the bar while I sat and drank my cocktails. She instantly flipped and got loud and told us to leave and he couldn't bring in some NA beer. I explained he just had a liver transplant and couldn't drink any alcohol. She said she was going to call the owner. I asked her to speak to the owner, but she just hung up. I have been in that bar many times and Gina, the owner, has always been accommodating, kind and customer service oriented. I don't believe she even called her. I feel like this bartenders loud obnoxious reaction was discriminatory and rude to treat me and my disabled husband so disrespectfully and then when I was asking why he couldn't bring a non alcoholic drink in since there is NO alcohol and she continued to yell at us to "get out of her bar" and "leave right now". I hadn't even had the first sip of my captain and coke, so I slid it back to her and we left and didn't pay a dime. We didn't take a drink and got kicked out, so I am not paying for a drink I didnt even get to taste. I have loved The Sundowner for more than 10 years. It had always been my place to go, when in Sedona, BECAUSE everyone has been so friendly. I still love the Sundowner, but I won't return again EVER if Lindsay is there or working. NO couth, respect or customer service skills. There was NO reason for her to start yelling at us over asking questions and trying to solve the problem so my husband could also enjoy the evening drinking his NA beer with me. I am furious and will be calling tomorrow or stopping by to try to see Gina before we leave. She also over charged us on Wednesday night and gave us crappy service, because we were outsiders. We only came back tonight because we were told Amanda was going to be working and she was fabulous and kind with great HONEST service. No overcharging. (We always keep track of our drinks and ask ahead how much one costs). Little did she know we are friends with alot of the locals and have been visiting this bar for years. WE have never been treated so badly or embarrassed so badly at any other place of business. And to think, we bought and have worn the tee-shirts and bragged about how wonderful the Sundowner is to all our friends back home. Really hurts our hearts to be loyal customers, even being non-locals and to be treated this way. Bartenders come and go, we have been customers way longer than Lindsay has worked there, so hopefully someday we will be able to return to the Sundowner we know and love, with great and...
Read moreThis is a very small, off of the main strip bar, with good food and great service. We were visiting West Sedona, AZ, and if you have been here, you know it is a very touristy area. We had been to several restaurants in the area, and they were okay, but we wanted something a little more simple and thought okay, burgers or sandwiches. We found Sundowner online, checked out their menu, and thought, okay, let's try it. We pull up, and it is like a small town bar on the outside with a private fenced in area with additional seating. You walk in and it is small and cozy. The young lady who was tending bar was also our server. She was very upbeat and extremely friendly with a ready smile. My husband ordered the shrimp dinner, and after waffling over what I might want, I asked the server's opinion on what was good and she said they were known for their burgers but one of her personal favorites was the Philly. There is a choice of chicken or steak. I went with the steak, and it did NOT disappoint. It is actually the absolute BEST Philly cheese steak I personally have ever had. My husband's shrimp dinner looked perfect as well, and he ate every bit of it. This is a place to go for something tasty and a...
Read moreBartender asked us if we wanted to start a tab or pay as we go. We said pay as we go, put $25 on the bar. She took the money, without saying how much the round was (house whiskey and double jack & coke) and gave no change back. A few minutes later I said excuse me I think you forgot our change, we had $25. She looked at us and said..."yeah it was $18 long pause......To which I said yeah we had $25 on the bar. She's was blown away that we would want our $7 back. (Why not just take the $20 bill?) I don't know how they do things in Arizona but typically you tip at the end of your time.
Anyway she then proceeded to fold napkins in an empty bar while we had empty drinks. We got one more round, and an order of wings (5 generic frozen wings), then left $10 because kill em with kindness amirite?!?! No but seriously who assumes a $7 tip after one round? I guess don't come in if you're a tourist, they'll try to take advantage...
