So disappointing. The decor is the highlight of the experience with booths arranged and partitioned to give a sense of privacy and intimacy.
The sushi is just poorly executed. It's the sushi equivalent of if you have a high schooler a master's vision and paintbrush - they'd still paint with inadequate techniques to get the job done. The flavors should work, the fish is good, but was destroyed by clumsy work at the sushi bar.
The trademark roll, the Blake was destroyed by being doused by the sushi chef in soy which made it completely soaked and so salty as to be difficult to eat. Any roll with sauce was just soaked by a heavy hand, unbalancing flavor and texture. At a corner shop run by a local family, this might be acceptable. At a resort restaurant charging $200 for a dinner for two, the bar is higher. And this food didn't even get in the same league as what the price would imply.
I took my wife here on our first getaway date in years, and this was an abysmal night. I say night because the wait staff is understaffed and despite knowing and ordering what we wanted quickly, it was more than an hour and a half before we were done. Our waitress was kind and did exactly what was needed but seemed to be covering everywhere inside and out, constantly moving.
I could not honestly recommend this location. It was a disappointment despite hearing such great things about the...
Read moreI report that the food was outstanding but our waiter was insulting, rude, demeaning and absurd. To sit down in a high-end, high-dollar Japanese sushi restaurant in the Aspen region, and have a surly, scruffy young waiter start correcting me immediately was appalling. When I asked if they had mussels he said, "Sir, we are a traditional Japanese restaurant." When I asked if they had squid he said, "As I said before, we are traditional Japanese"-- as if my request were so ridiculous. I've eaten sushi in Japan for Pete's sake. I asked about the eel roll, which he said is just eel; I asked if they could prepare it as a caterpillar with avocado, and again he admonished me. Wow. Super-good fish. Maguro was outstanding. They did make me a caterpillar. Rolls were expensive and worth the spend. Where do they get this wait staff? I've eaten at their sister restaurant in Carbondale and would certainly choose to spend money there instead of Kenichi. Five...
Read moreHonestly this place looked really good on open table and my girlfriend and I decided to give it a try. Food is what you typically expect from a sushi place.. you are not going to get some life changing dish here. You’re easily spending $100+ per person and it’s just not worth it. The worst part about my experience is that we were sat at 9pm for dinner and told at 9:27pm that last call would be in 3 minutes. Doesn’t really give us much time to decide if we want more. Our server Elizabeth was also busy on her phone for the majority of our dining experience. She didn’t ask if we were enjoying our food or if we needed anything else after we made our initial order. Not for anything if I’m spending $100+ for sushi I can get for $20 at home I expect much...
