Edit: 5/27/25 Unfortunately I must revise my previous review. I’ve been going here every month with my family because we thought we found our favorite restaurant. But recently the service has been quite questionable, this last time we visited, we were sat down with no greeting or verbal communication. Our server didn’t even offer us any water or drinks until after our food arrived which was very odd and unusual. I asked for clarification about a menu item but I feel like this question irked the server and manager? And from then on it felt like we weren’t welcome. When they finally handed our water to us, they tossed the cups and water jug onto the table, as if they were in a hurry, though that restaurant was empty so there weren’t other customers to attend to, etc. They did the same thing to us when our check arrived, they threw the tray onto our table and it clattered but they walked away, no eye contact whatsoever. It just didn’t feel very warm and welcoming like usual. They simply took our order, brought out our food, and left us alone. No communication from the server/manager which I feel is unusual for a restaurant. No smiles, nothing.
I’ve also noticed their menu has changed/prices have increased, which is understandable in this economy, but for the way we were treated, the food just isn’t worth it. I probably won’t be returning here again. :( The food was good, but it’s just not the same with the lack of friendly service.
Old review:
This is my second time eating here and I’m still very pleased with the atmosphere and service. The food is soooo good, each dish has its own distinct flavor. I went once with my mom and this time I went with my parents for Valentine’s Day. The server was very attentive and helpful. We changed to a new booth a few times and he was understanding. The menu has a lot of variety, I loved going in for happy hour! So many good deals! The sushi is superb. This will probably be my go-to spot for many years. I can’t wait to try many of the dishes on the menu. Also I liked watching the cooking videos...
Read moreI want to start by saying I wanted to like this place because I like supporting new restaurants, but alas it was not good. Maybe it was just a bad day, but today it was not good. I am sorry I didn't take any pictures of my food because it looked great. Unfortunately it did not taste as good as it looked. My friend and I went here for their $5.99 lunch special. The special is not noted anywhere in the menu, but when I asked I was told it applied to the Chinese lunch special (Entree, fried rice, gyoza, and soup) and the Sushi lunch special (2 rolls from the list and soup). My buddy got the Kung Pao Chicken and I got the Sushi special with Spicy Tuna roll and a Vegas roll. The soup seemed like it would have been pretty good, but there was a strong burnt taste. By buddies Kung Pao likewise had a strong burnt taste to it, not just the traditional wok hei (breath of the wok) flavor. My sushi was also not very good. The Spicy Tuna was fine, though they chop up the tuna (I prefer my in chunks), but was more fishy than I would have liked (I guess that is what you get when you live in a landlocked state). The Vegas Role (Deep Fried Tempura Salmon, cream cheese & avocado, top with spicy mayo and eel sauce) was not good. I am the type of guy who normally eats everything. Even the not good stuff, but this time I left a little of my Vegas roll because I just couldn't eat any more. I had to look up the ingredients just to know what was in it. The tempura was not light nor fluffy, but dense and under cooked. I could taste the cream cheese, but that is about it. It mostly tasted of uncooked batter. I may give it another chance because the Chinese food looked promising if it wasn't burnt and I didn't get a chance to sample the Thai menu, but I do like the lunch specials at Thailand restaurant and their prices are a little more competitive. I will most likely not be back, but would be willing to give them another try. If I did come back I definitely would not be...
Read morePROS: Half-priced (cheaper) sushi rolls ($8+) Food was presented well and delicious! No wait or reservation Many choices, besides sushi are available Dining area was clean, mostly (see CONS) Bathroom was clean Hostess seemed concerned for our comfort Service was quick and easy (Use menu item # to order easily)
CONS: Dishes from previous diners sat uncleared for 10+ minutes, understaffed? We got our order of food, but had to ask for plates, understaffed? English was not the first language of our hostess, so ordering using the menu item #/pointing was easier than using the name of the dish Sushi in a strip mall shop, feels like it's sushi in a strip mall shop
I want to clarify that although I have some items listed in my CONS section, I enjoyed myself at this restaurant and am planning on returning. My son and I came to eat here, to celebrate his birthday. We had planned to eat at another sushi restaurant, but a naming mix-up caused our spot to be given to others and we did not want to wait for 30 more minutes. I came to Red 88 Asian Bistro on recommendation from a friend who said he saw them advertising half-priced sushi rolls. We ordered 5 sushi rolls, as well as 4 pieces of tako (octopus) nigiri; totaled $50 without tip. I thought it was a good deal. Our entire order was placed onto a wooden boat and presented to our table. My son was thrilled with the sushi-boat, which made for a great picture to show other family members. Well done, Red 88 Asian Bistro, you saved a birthday dinner. We'll be...
