As your scroll through these reviews you’ll find one common denominator that speaks to the consistency and quality of this location: Ryan. Working as a marketing professional and advising on multiple million dollar campaigns and initiatives every fiscal year, I have never seen nor experienced something quite like the store owner Ryan, and his dedication toward the hobby.
I have no personal relationship with anotherr person, who plays Warhammer aside from myself and my son. My wife and I went to the store to look at the stock, and find some Tau Crisis Battlesuits for his budding/ fledgling xeno army. Ryan immediately inserted himself into our internal conversations but not aggressively nor with any goal in mind aside from instilling confidence, information, and general helpfulness. I know quite a bit about GW (Games Workshop) and some of their PR mishaps and decision making over the years, and I can affirmatively say that if GW employed Ryan and those like him at the highest echelons of their board or decision making apparatuses, they would have a market presence otherwise unseen in the customer experience niche.
Ryan informed me about many GW initiatives and programs that the website and marketing material they send in daily email blasts, never touched on. He gave us tons of literature, information, invited us to a Christmas “Squig Race” of his own design, introduced us to many regulars and the most absolutely baffling thing - he’s the only employee present. I don’t understand how that works, how someone can orchestrate and encourage as many potential customers and guests of the hobby off the street, as Ryan does. Our only complaint from my wife was the smell of the patronage present, which is a given considering the wargaming hobby. Ryan did not smell, I should add. He endures the smell, day after day, with a smile and helpful attitude which I have not experienced since my 2nd grade math teacher, Mrs. Wilson.
Here’s just some of the services he offered to us: He offers a miniature painting class, wherein you can keep the models he provides you to paint and learn - FOR FREE. He demo’d GW’s new releases and when to expect them in relation to the holiday . He provided us with 3 models just for visiting the store (this is something all stores do, but he was very affirming and positive about the situation which I imagine most stores are not). He upsold us on about $180 worth of models and plastic glue, which we were planning on purchasing but decided to abandon Amazon in favor of purchasing in the store. Informed us on some after school initiatives wherein my high-school age children can get a librarian or designated teacher to form a Warhammer club and the store will provide them with models and materials to play after school. Invitation to regular gaming sessions and groups to meet and network with other like minded individuals. invitation to a Christmas event of his design. He provided literature for produce a holiday lists for my children in addition to some other promotions that I was unaware of from GW’s internal marketing campaign, where tasks can be completed for Warhammer swag. many other things but this review is becoming quite lengthy.
If you’re on the fence about the hobby, pulling the trigger on the high price tags, or really just trying to learn more about Warhammer - go to the store. Trust me as an anonymous internet-based reviewer who doesn’t post much, it’s worth your time. I don’t know how Ryan does what he does, and I have no idea how GW rolled into him, because he and he alone can drive that business in the Salt Lake Valley to heights never seen before in...
Read moreI discovered Warhammer when one of my sons about 2 years ago showed me his plastic toy soldiers and tried to get me into it as well. I was resistant at first but fast forward a few months later and Father’s Day 2021 I was in!!
What is this place? Warhammer is a store that sells hobbying wargaming miniatures specifically made by the English company Games Workshop. They have several table top games where you purchase plastic kits to build up an army of toy soldiers in a sci fi or fantasy setting. You build them, paint them, and play the game all at these stores. (And of course at home too)
The setting is incredible and has had literally hundreds of excellent books written about the various universes.
But specifically this store, is a cut above nearly any customer service experience I have had in a retail store BAR NONE. It is run by one guy who is absolutely passionate about warhammer and teaching you what makes this hobby special to them. They will take time to teach you, learn your name and genuinely try to find something about this hobby that you may like. He then he often will offer you a free model and teach you how to use some tried and true methods on how you can make your first soldier.
If you purchase a box and start to get into this hobby, you’ll find there’s also several tables to face off against other people’s armies too… and speaking of other people...
there’s the community of fellow warhammer gamers. What a fantastic bunch of people!! In the last year and I half I have made over a dozen new friends and have been able to build vast armies of little plastic soldiers to play what is now my favorite game.
Come join us! We’re always happy to have more new friends.
I’ll attach a picture of my sci fi side army of Orks. We did a celebration in November of our armies called armies on parade and built dioramas. I love this place, it’s my happy little...
Read moreWalking into the Warhammer store at the district, the very first thing you might notice is the size. Its a small shop, with tables for maybe 8 games, and half of that is set aside for painting. The two long walls are loaded with miniatures (though they might not have less popular options in stock), and the back wall has a good selection of GW paints. The next thing you will notice (if not the first) is a friendly greeting from the smiling owner at the rear of the store. Ryan is probably the best game/hobby store employee, manager, or owner I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Right away he makes sure to address you, and even if he is busy with someone or something else, he makes sure to let you know he knows your there and will be with you as soon as possible. Talking with Ryan is the best part of coming here, he remembers what you are working on, he always has great advice, whether it's on the rules of the games or tips on the hobby. Unlike every other game shop I have been too, I have never felt pushed to buy more, and never felt like I was an inconvenience (many game stores feel uninviting if you are not one of "the regulars"). The community that participates here is also great, always glad to answer questions or talk about the hobby. This store may not be the biggest, it may not have the most tables or biggest selection (Though you can order anything in GWs catalog and have it delivered to the store if its not in stock.), but it is hands down the best in Utah in terms of...
