Red Pier Seafood Southaven Review – March 8, 2025
My visit to Red Pier Seafood in Southaven at 5 PM was a disappointing experience marred by poor service, long waits, and mismanagement.
Our group originally had 10 people, and before being seated, we were required to sign an agreement stating we would have one bill, provide a copy of a driver’s license, and accept an automatic 18% gratuity. After signing, we were informed of a 45-minute wait, which was expected. However, half of our group left, leaving just five of us.
Once seated, our waitress, Shakia, immediately warned us that the kitchen was backed up and food would take about an hour. That was understandable, so we ordered drinks and appetizers to keep the conversation going. We specifically requested water without lemon, as lemons are often unwashed before being cut. Despite this, every water arrived with lemon floating in it, and the waitress seemed confused when we asked for them to be replaced.
The service continued to decline from there. After a 45-minute wait, only one appetizer and some fried meal orders arrived—brought by another server while our waitress was missing. The second appetizer never arrived. The seafood boils followed another 45 minutes to an hour later, meaning our table ate in shifts rather than together. Worse, we weren’t given buckets, gloves, or utensils for the boils until we flagged down another server, who then informed our own waitress. It took her an additional five minutes to bring them.
Meanwhile, our alcoholic drinks were nowhere to be found. When we asked about them, we were told the bar was backed up. They eventually arrived a full 30 minutes after our food—only after we had requested a refund for them and the missing appetizer.
Overall, the experience was frustrating. While we expected some wait times due to a busy evening, the service was unorganized, inattentive, and slow. Orders were incorrect or forgotten, and basic requests (like no lemon in water) were mishandled. The required agreement for large parties felt excessive given the service quality. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t return based...
Read moreThis is a real case of good product, poor management. My first and probably last visit to this place. I am a firm believer that consumers should recognize their power. I don't care how much I enjoyed the food and drinks, if the management doesn't recognize the value of my time, my dime and my experience, I won't be back. I got choices . I won't choose you again. First thing, the "hostesses" refused to seat some other family members in the same dining room after we checked in as separate parties. They wanted us to all to wait to sit at one table with 1 ticket. We had teenagers, divas and senior citizens. We didn't want to sit together, just close enough to watch the kids. The place was absolutely not full. And they sat someone who came in after our group at a table next to us when we asked for the table and were refused🤔 It wasn't my choice, but, I wanted to leave then. The server was pleasant, and attempted to be helpful, but according to the manager, she was new. We placed an order to go that came out TOTALLY WRONG. Another order wasn't messed up 1 time, or 2 times. But a whopping THREE times. We finished eating and were ready to leave. The manager says, "we have it right now and we're going to comp your meal." But the meal is on the ticket. Well, the MANAGER said that he can only comp 20 percent. Keep your 20 percent. Keep your meal, and next time, we'll try another venue. Thanks, Jay? WORD IS BOND. The 3 stars are for the server and bartenders. You can get the same food in a BUNCH of other places. This place won't last long, if they can't recognize that a customer has choices. I can find some crab legs in a bag in a lot of places. So what makes you different? I'll go to the grocery store before I pay to be disrespected. Some folks won't care, but in the end, you'll pay for their low...
Read moreI will never go here again. When I pay right at sixty dollars for lunch, I do expect a plate and real utensils. I am visiting my Mother here and she had been wanting to try it. I ordered two crabcakes and hushpuppies and my Mother ordered the fried shrimp basket, it came with the cajun fries. Well the food arrived in cardboard containers that looked like the wings container at Buffalo wild wings. We both got two black plastic forks. I asked for a knife and the waitress showed up with a white plastic knife and said that was all that she could find. Now I tell you here was my presentation. Three strands of lettuce and 1/2 a slice of tomato with two crab cakes thrown on top. My Mother's shrimp looked good, she said it was ok. She told me her cajun fries were horrible. She said they were cold and when she squeezed them you could just see the grease coming out. I just paid the bill and left. I am an ex-pat living in Costa Rica visiting my Mother and I was really wanting some hushpuppies and what I got was belly bombers. Today I still wanted hushpuppies and I ordered Captian D's with Doordash and i got the same black plastic fork and cardboard serving dish with huge fluffy hushpuppies that were light and airy for 1/3 the price. I still think those crab cakes were just bought and not hand made, . They were too uniform and rather mushy with the breadcrumbs as fillers. Presentation means a lot. Too much money was spent redoing the interior rather then making the food good, which is average at best. I travel a lot and eat in many international restaurants and this one does not even compare in the top 500. Save your money and call Doordash for Captian D's. There is just not any good seafood in this area. Just a honest option...
