Our first visit to Bandido Taqueria Mexicana was awesome. Although we've driven by it countless times, on a recent Friday we were looking for Mexican, but wanted to try something new. Bandido did us well!

Located on Shelbyville Road in St. Matthews, it's kind of unassuming in that there aren't flashing lights or neon. Just a simple sign on the roadside. When we first pulled in the parking lot we weren't even sure if they had seating, but luckily they did.

Bandido isn't a full-service eatery, but an "order at the counter and we'll call your name when it's ready" kind of place.

The menu is extensive and features a number of signature burritos, almost all of which I wouldn't mind trying on my next visit. I'm particularly interested in the Chile Relleno Burrito, but they all look amazing.

BUT...Jim is a sucker for Street Tacos so, yea... I had street tacos -- Chicken, to be exact. When ordering street tacos all three have to be the same kind; no mix-and-match, and I'm OK with that. We ordered a basked of chips and salsa also (yes, there's an upcharge). There's also a salsa bar with several kinds of salsa for your meal enhancement.

OH...and most importantly...they have Glass Bottle Coke®. In order to truly appreciate Street Tacos you have to have glass bottle Coke®. This is the way.

Our food delivery was about ten minutes and everything came out grand. Our food was hot, the chips and salsa were tasty, and my street tacos were a-maze-ing. I opted to make mine a combo, adding riced and refried beans. Refried beans in Mexican eateries can vary from seriously average to amazing, so you're never sure what to expect. Bandido's refried beans were out-freaking-standing. I'm not sure what kind of magic goes into them, but they are most awesome.

The decor is, in keeping with the Mexican theme, bright and colorful, with yellow being the primary color. It's not overly decorate wall-to-wall television screens.

During our visit I saw a good number of people come in for takeout, so I'm guessing they do a pretty good takeout visit.

I'm glad we finally tried Bandido. We generally have a monthlong rotation of Friday dinner spots and I think Bandido has now been added...

"FINALLY SOME GOOD MEXICAN FOOD" This was my sister's message to me yesterday. So, naturally, I had to investigate. I should preface this by explaining that my sister and I are from a family where if our members don't learn to cook, we're basically ostracized. My whole family knows great food and we're from Arizona, where excellent Mexican food is pretty much everywhere. We've lived in Southern Indiana and roamed around the Louisville area since October '22, and sorely missed decent Mexican cuisine deep in our SOULS. Thanks to the efforts of Junior (owner/manager, from San Diego... YESSS!) and his fam, we have an awesome place to go for truly great tacos, burritos, and salsa. My sister had the steak nacho burrito, and today I tried out the chorizo breakfast burrito (Breakfast all day! Awesome!) and the battered fish taco. The first words out of me were, "Oh my god." Sweet memories of beer-battered fish from Rubio's flooded into me and I could not be happier. The salsa bar is great. If you like spicy, the guac salsa is definitely a MUST. Their corn tortillas are made fresh, in-house, and although I don't typically like corn tortillas with my battered fish the soft, warm goodness was too good to pass up. I've been informed that, due to popular demand, Junior has considered offering fresh-made flour tortillas as well for the tacos, aside from the burritos. I will be back for more, especially for Taco Tuesdays. Come by, bring your friends and family, and don't miss this shining jewel in the Ohio River Valley. Keep doing what you're doing, Junior. I'm...

Would give negative stars if possible! I have been coming here for almost a year now. The young, hispanic male/female, cant tell which, with very short shaved hair, who runs the registers, has been extremely rude from the beginning, but I have overlooked it. Today, he was handling people's dirty dishes, on top of garbage can, with gloves on and did not change his gloves out to give me a to-go box. He proceeded to do other stuff behind the counter with those same dirty gloves. That is not sanitary, and I told him so. This is absolutely disgusting. He told me I was being difficult, told me to leave and not come back. He said his uncle started this business and he can say anything to anybody whenever he wants. This was all said in front of other customers. It's a shame that you allow rude, clueless, entitled people like him to run this business into the ground. I have seen him give attitude to several other customers as well, and he walks around with a pissed off look on his face like he's too good to be there. He has a very bad energy. I told him I was going to leave a bad review, and he said he did not care. I will not be...

This is my first time visiting this restaurant. Inside was clean with a few tables and metal chairs. Service was very good. I ordered the Pollo Asada burrito. It was large and weighed about a pound as a guess. I thought it had a good mix of flavors. Small pieces of chicken along with tomatoes, onions, green peppers and a slightly spicy sauce. One of the better burritos I have had in recent memory. I also ordered a side of Spanish rice and refried beans. Rice was good and had a bit of flavor. Beans were, well refried beans. My friend had the steak burrito. It had also a good amount of flavor. There was also a bit more fat/gristle than expected, but it was steak. He was satisfied though. Service was fast and friendly. Each burrito came à la cart. Anything else you would add to the order. Two burritos plus an order of rice and beans came to about $26. I will probably return again and try some of the other entrées listed.
