This was easily the best Chinese food that I have ever had!! I had never thought to make a trip to Oriental House and it wasn't until my Uber driver, who happened to be Chinese, had highly recommended this place and we were discussing food, etc. I thought to myself: "Oh, now I gotta go check it out!"
When I arrived, I wanted to dine-in but it was closed for carryout only. I was disappointed, but considering covid, it was completely understandable. So I ordered the whole HK style duck, #51 (sorry, it was a long name that I do not remember), shrimp lo mein, fried chicken wings, beef on stick, and BBQ pork buns.
The duck was AMAZING! You can taste the spices and the love that went into making it. I absolutely enjoyed eating it.
The #51 had a delicious black bean sauce with a smokey flavor and aroma. This is a dish that I will certainly order again in the future.
Now, the BBQ pork buns were something special! I do not know what they use for the dough, but it had a very sweet and fresh aroma like coconut cream or something. I can't quite put my finger on what it was but I will order several orders of it next time. I kind of want to right now as I type lol
All in all, this place is amazing. Please do not make the mistake I did for years and...
Read moreMy wife and I were traveling through the area and excited about ordering War Su Gai. The reviews looked promising. What we were served wasn't anything close to the real thing. They used the plain breaded chicken from Sweet and Sour Chicken to pile on top of lettuce. That and the very salty, poorly flavored gravy was all we got. No almonds, no mushrooms, no scallions, no flavor. Oh, the rice... The waitress asked if we wanted steamed or fried rice. My wife chose the fried rice. They gave her a bowl of rice fried only with soy sauce. There was no egg or vegetable pieces in it. It tasted terrible, and they upcharged her a dollar for it. The egg roll wasn't very good either and skimpy on ingredients. We were waiting on someone to refill our water, and since it was 30 minutes till closing, they were too busy cleaning up for the night to notice customers. A bad eating experience. Frankly, if a Chinese restaurant can't get fried rice and egg rolls right, then why should I be surprised when they skimp on the War Su Gai? We wasted $35. Do yourself a favor and...
Read moreWas back in Kentucky to visit my parents and my mom suggested to come here for lunch after I had landed from my flight. She said they had dim sum, which is very hard to find, so I was excited to try this place out. Had lived in KY all my life until recently and never heard about Oriental House until last week.
Service was horrible from our waitress. My mom asked for hot tea as soon as we arrived and it took her 20 mins to get it (we had to ask twice). I had to ask multiple times for water and boxes at the end of our meal (which our waitress also forgot, the hostess had to bring us a few).
The shrimp balls I ordered were good, however the shu mai seemed like it was prepared by a microwave. It looked like the kinds I’ve purchased at an oriental store and Jungle Jim’s location in Cincinnati.
I guess I had a higher expectation for it being a “traditional Chinese restaurant” and most people has said it was good, including my mom, but I was not impressed.
Maybe when I’m back in the area, I’ll...
