La Morena — Restaurant in Stroudsburg

We stopped by La Morena BBQ for dinner during a quick trip to Stroudsburg. The service and food here was excellent! We ordered several dishes (all of which came in big portions) including: the beef empanadas, shrimp and avocado salad, pulled pork sandwich w/ french fries, pollo alla mexicana with pinto beans, and chocolate lava cake for dessert. Isaiah took our order over the phone and he was very helpful. The beef empanadas are a MUST!! Do not leave without ordering at least two (or three) because you will be craving them later like we were! They were hot, very crispy exterior and the beef had a great flavor. We wish we ordered a bunch more. The shrimp and avocado salad was fresh and creamy, they do not skimp on shrimp and the salad came in a taco bowl. The pulled pork sandwich was juicy and a big portion. The pollo alla mexicana hit all the right spots. There was a great medley of flavors with peppers, onions and tomatoes, a hint of spice from the jalapenos, and the chicken was cooked perfectly in the wine sauce. We loved the chocolate lava cake as well which came with two scoops of ice cream. Ask for the sauces- the orange sauce and the green sauce are great accompaniments for just about everything. And don't forget to grab an ice-cold Jarritos from the fridge before you leave, the mango one we had was so refreshing! The staff are very personable, friendly and welcoming, you can tell they enjoy working together and that they care for their customers. The restaurant is very clean and everyone wears masks. A dinner before the show. A large party was in the middle of their meal. 3 couples already seated with no food. We were promptly seated. Waiter took our order about 5 minutes later. He informed us it would be about 30 minutes for the meal to come. That would give us time to eat our meal and make the show in time. 30 minutes later, the other tables had their food. We still had not received water. 45 minutes later, there is still no food or drinks. The last table that had received food is now leaving. I had to chase the waiter down, who had been averting eye contact, to tell him to make our meals to go. 10 minutes later, we get our "to-go" meals. Thirsty and hungry, we had to leave the food in the car and head to the show. Our supper ended up being a Snickers bar, popcorn, and a soda. We did dig into the meal upon getting home. The food was delicious. Just wish we could have eaten it 3 1/2...

I can’t believe you charge $2 for a bottle of deer park water with no tap option. We came here between lunch and dinner, were the only ones in the restaurant and waited 30+ minutes for our food. They brought out chips and salsa to start but most of the chips were broken so impossible to eat with the salsa. Menu on the window apparently was only lunch which was no longer served when we got there around 4 - dinner menu wasn’t on the window. Not really sure how chicken Marsala or chicken in white wine sauce is Mexican or Portuguese. This restaurant is a candidate for restaurant impossible!

Overall food was just ok, service was just ok. Won’t be back and wish we went...
