Where do I begin with this one? I have nothing but ALL GOOD THINGS to say. First, the owner, Tina, is a phenomenal, kind, and genuine human being. The way the shop is designed, with the heartwarming words of affirmation written on every to-go-cup, makes a difference in people's days. When I first discovered this shop, I sought a local coffee place to study for my college classes and snack in a cozy environment (not my home) to focus. Cozy is an understatement; the Common Ground Coffee community radiates positive energy, and the atmosphere gives off waves of peacefulness. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I typically get a Steamer or a tea, which is a nice alternative for noncoffee drinkers like myself. Food options are vegan and gluten-free, inclusive of those with food sensitivities. I particularly like the couch, windows, and plants inside the shop. It does get busy in the morning and early afternoon, but after about 1430-1500, the pace slows down a bit for those who don't like crowds. The music played is usually either an Indie pop or an R&B pop that could be more engaging but catchy enough to vibe out to. If I had to make any suggestions or changes, I suggest adding thicker pillow cushions for both the back and the seat. The hours are customer-dependent dependant, but hopefully, in the future, the hours could be extended a little longer to 1800. The prices of the drinks are reasonable, and I understand that there is a competitive nature with as many coffee shops as there are in Tacoma, but maybe adding a rewards program such as a punch card for the regulars or even new customers to cut some of the prices. Something like a free small Coffee or beverage after every 12th visit or buy one dessert, get the other 50% off. Other than that, I do a place like Tacoma, especially Hill Top, which could be a safer place. This will sound SUPER cheesy, but despite this, whenever I walk into Common Ground Coffee shop, and either the owner, Tina, or staff greet me warmly, I can work on my class assignments worry and stress-free. Thank you all for being such rock stars; I really...

Read moreExtremely Disappointed â Wonât Be Returning. On Sunday, June 29th at 10:09am, I visited the coffee shop with two of my friends while visiting from out of town. We ordered three drinks: two hot lattes and one iced almond milk latte. Unfortunately, the iced latte was undrinkably bitterâso much so that after just one sip, I knew I couldnât enjoy it.
Wanting to salvage the experience, I politely approached the barista and explained that while the two hot lattes were fine, the iced latte was far too bitter and asked if I could exchange it for a hot one instead. To my surprise, the barista responded curtly: âWe donât exchange coffee drinks here. Itâs against our policy.â
I calmly explained again that the drink was not drinkable and that I wasnât asking for anything extravagantâjust a simple exchange. She cut me off and said dismissively, âWhat you order is what you get.â I mentioned we were visiting from out of town and expressed how inflexible and unwelcoming that policy felt.
Rather than offer any kind of solution or even a shred of empathy, she rang up a new drink and asked me to pay againâ$5.76âfor a replacement. When I made it clear we wouldn't be paying again and reiterated my disappointment, she coldly said, âOK, Iâll cancel the drink,â and that was the end of it.
No apology. No customer service. No basic courtesy.
Needless to say, we left with a bitter drink and an even more bitter experience. I wonât be returningâand I certainly wouldnât recommend this place to anyone who values being treated...
