This local fave has stood the test of time as a staple of The Colony for several years now and never fails to inspire and impress!
For a small-town watering hole, The Thirsty Growler’s rotating selection of taps sourced from breweries both local and around the globe, takes you on a tasting adventure with tried and true faves like Lakewood’s variations of Temptress brews to a freshly tapped Canadian gose to a German dunkel and back to the Lone Star State’s very own Saint Arnold’s Brewery for a tasty non-alcoholic root beer. The Thirsty Growler offers cold brew on tap also for a different kind of buzz, as well as varied kombuchas for those underage visitors or DDs. Taps are served in flights or various-sized pours of your choice. Growlers of your fave brew (or ones you just didn’t get to try) can be purchased, filled fresh on the spot, and taken home to enjoy later too!

Pro-tip: Food service is extremely limited (as in pretzels, flatbread, and prepackaged snacks) but Abuelo’s is just two doors down for dine-in or takeout to bring with you! This area also offers many other food options just a hop, skip, and a jump in any direction to satiate any cravings your sipping may have induced, some of which include Boxo Hibachi, Down South, Saltgrass, and the latest new openings...
Read moreAfter driving by this place more than a few times, a Google alert that traffic sucked made me stop and wait it out. So glad I did! With over 30 beers on tap, I had a rough time deciding what to drink. Mike the owner helped out. He knew exactly what to help me order when my fave beer wasn't on the menu. His staff was friendly and helpful and never left me waiting for a new beer or failing to discard used glasses. I was able to chat with him and found they have a great wi-fi connection and enough outlets around to ensure those that need them have them available. The bar top was spacious, tons of big top tables and bench booths for those that need either. If you're not sure what to drink, their 3 big screens show the menu in real time, when they're out...you can tell. Their website also offers their tap list in the event you can't see the screens and they offer easy make your own flight fill in sheets. Bring your own growler to fill or purchase on site! The prices are the best I've seen in DFW on their selection. Overall I give this place a 5 star review and an A1 service call. They don't have a kitchen, but just ask what you can order in and they have the details handy! Take a sec to chat with the staff! The Colony was lacking in a great beer bar...the Thirsty Growler just...
Read moreThis place is great! As far as food goes they have chips, peanuts and hot pretzels available for purchase. You are however allowed to bring your own food if you like. This place always has a great variety of constantly rotating beers, amazing staff, comfortable environment and power outlets with two USB ports at every booth. When I say the staff is great, I mean it! I can't think of one time I've ever been in there(and I've been there a lot) where anyone behind the bar was ever in less than a great mood. I don't mean they weren't in a bad mood and were just there. They were in a good mood and seem to really like working there. Happy staff makes happy customers and this place has that figured out to a T. They're also all beer drinkers so they're knowledgeable about what they're serving you. It's really nice to walk into a beer bar and be able to actually talk beer with your server, feel confident they know what they're talking about and be able to trust their recommendations as opposed to just ordering by number and the person pouring the beer not having a clue what they just put in your glass. All that combined with the comfortable, mature and welcoming atmosphere makes this one of my top three places to...
