This is a pleasant Italian restaurant which has a refined atmosphere, food, and overall experience for a high price.
Walking in to the restaurant, the first thing that stuck out to me was the live music playing in the background. I loved the performance and thought it was a perfect fit for the classy atmosphere the restaurant has. You can tell that Nona’s is an expensive establishment (average for Italian food) but in return will have an amazing experience.
After we sat down our waitress Heidi brought us complementary bread and oil, which was a 6/10. I think pouring the oil for us individually on our plates was a nice touch. I wasn’t too fond of the bread, however. The inside was nice and soft, but I wanted the outside to be more firm. The oil was also very nice with an intense garlic flavor, but I think it could have used a pinch more salt.
We ordered some bruschetta for our appetizers after a short wait, and I loved it. The bruschetta was a solid 8.5/10, with the only criticism I have is that the tomatoes didn’t look super fresh.
After another short wait, our entrees came in. We ordered a beef tortellini portobella (6.5/10), beef ravioli fra diavolo (8/10), and Nona’s favorite (7/10) with a side of croquettes (9.5/10). The portion sizes are perfect; not too big so that’s overwhelming, but enough to fill us up. The tortellini portobella was decent, but nothing about the dish stood out specifically. The ravioli was what I ordered and thought it was the best tasting; the beef, tomatoes, and spice came out very well creating a strong dish. I think the Nona’s favorite tasted very good and flavor-wise was an 8/10, but I did not like the presentation. The sauce was too thin, there wasn’t enough color as the entire dish was a pale yellow (with some green cilantro), and the artichoke hearts and mushrooms were stacked on the chicken when I would have liked the dish to be a little more spread out. Finally, the croquettes were amazing. The outside was crispy, and the potatoey goodness on the inside was nice and soft. The only thing lacking was some marinara sauce on the side. Not that the dish was dry, just that I think a little bit of tomato would have gone a long way.
Overall, we had an excellent experience. Heidi was great as our waitress, and our total came out to be ~$110, which is a lot for three people. I don’t know whether I’ll come back here with that price, but I would give Nona’s a recommendation as I enjoyed being here.
Ratings system 1/10: horrible 2/10: bad 3/10: below average 4/10: slightly below average 5/10: average 6/10: slightly above average 7/10: above average 8/10: good 9/10: really...
Read moreThis was possibly the worst place Italian place in the Woodlands. I don't know why this has almost 5 stars, and I don't know who cooks here, but this place is awful.
First of all, is potato soup supposed to be orange?
Yeah, think on that a minute.............................done?
Here's the answer: It's freakin not!
My wife and I ordered soups and entrées here. I got the lobster bisque, and she got the potato soup. Entrées were chicken marsala and chicken francese.
My wife told the waiter she didn't like her soup (that orange excuse for a potato soup remember?) and he said I'm so sorry.....took it away....didn't offer her a salad or anything to make up for it.
I tasted her potato soup.........it tasted like they had run out of potato soup........pureed 90 carrots and said "good enough" on the base and added a couple of roasted potatoes to it.
I'm. Not. Joking.
And no, it wasn't sweet potatoes......who does that?
Then my wife's chicken marsala tasted like they had poured wine and BBQ sauce in a pan, seared and burned it, and said.........good enough.
(BTW, we haven't discussed the "bread" and "oil mixture" you get here. I'll let you in on a little secret. The bread was not Italian, and the oil was sweet with onions or something else.)
To the folks of the Woodlands, literally go to the Adriatic cafe you need mediocre Kansas type Italian food......
Oh, you want real Italian, you ask?
Frenchies Nasa Pkwy in south Houston.
Whoever is cooking at Nonas......give up. Let me put it in terms of guys who like fooshball.......would you let an injured red shirted player (the cook at nonas today) play the Super Bowl (dinner or lunch during the busier days)?
NO.
Good luck and good riddance....
Read moreI love great food, atmosphere as well as customer service. I make a review on all service that I receive. My daughter and I walked in (greeted by waitress), she was pleasant. No one else was in the restaurant. I went to the bathroom (nicer than most), while in the bathroom on the wall is an advertisement of happy hour (3:00 pm to what ever). The time was 3:15 pm. Sat at booth with daughter ordered cocktails (never once was happy hour mentioned). When she bring the cocktails, I stated isn’t it happy hour. She said “let me check”. Yes it is happy hour; however we have have non happy hour cocktails. They were 9.00$ and $18.00 dollars each. So now we order happy hour drinks. For appetizers we ordered bruschetta. She left to put the order in. Came back and stated bread does come with the meal. Mind you we have an order for bread and tomatoes at this point. We order our food. Medium and medium well. Both are cooked with no pink in the middle. Of course we are still pleasant. We decided to get the food to go. We tip the waitress like 19% on a 200.00 bill. I get home, take a couple of bites of the steak (has no flavor and very oily). The bruschetta is very, very oily. The potato cooked with a brown crust. Yuck! Who does that? I leave every thing on my plate and 1 hr later the oil has pooled. I was so disappointed. The piece de resistance, I was violently ill. I was asleep and I started feeling something wrong. For two hours I was projectile vomiting , I tried to take meds ( stomach was so upset) but even they did not stay down. I lay across my bed moaning. I don’t wish this on anyone. Over all save your money and your body. It was a...
