Houston TX Hot Chicken — Restaurant in Toledo

I'll start by saying that there were not very many people here but our order took a little bit longer than what you would expect. We found out that this was probably due to all of the online orders as people were coming in and picking orders up while we were waiting. So expect a little bit of a wait if you don't call ahead. For me the chicken itself was really good chicken as far as the cut of meat. I should say that the meat was very inconsistent with the heat from cooking. Several pieces of the meat were ice cold and several pieces felt as if they came hot out of the fryer. This was disappointing as I'm in the food service industry and own my own business. That's why I do have some concern with the cold pieces of meat. The seasoning was spicy. I got a medium heat but they do not have salt or pepper. I really like to add a little bit of salt so that was disappointing as the flavor was spicy but bland. the wife got plain and her chicken was tasty. The meat texture was good. We both got frozen lemonades which were the highlight of the meal. Absolutely delicious but we had most of it drank before our meal come out. I did the house fries which were $5 and they're just frozen crinkle cut fries with a sweet seasoning on them. Not enough to charge 5 dollars. I did like the flavor off the seasoning on them tho. I would recommend going once so you could say you tried it. You may have a better experience. I would bring my own salt lol. The atmosphere is kind of like a nightclub with the music and the neon lights and the vibe. Overall the visit was not disappointing but some improvement would be nice. I.e cooking heat consistency , salt and pepper option. I do look forward to trying some other items...

I ordered for takeout. Took about 11 minutes to get home. The fries were FANTASTIC. The chicken was good but not great, the breading was sliding off the tenders and had lost most of it's crisp, borderline soggy. The sauce is on the sweeter side, it's good but not my personal favorite, I can see why people would like it though, tastes and has the appearance like it has corn syrup in it. Prices were on par with competitors. Service was exceptional!!

My controversial opinion though is that I'll take Dave's Hot over this any day of the week. I think Dave's chicken is overall better and stays crispier longer due to being a lighter corn starch base breading. I also personally prefer Dave's sauce. Dave's sauce is very mild and creamy/mayo'ey but I think it pairs really well with their chicken seasonings and adds a cool/refreshing element to the hot spiciness that a sweeter sauce doesn't. I would say their fries are VERY similar, both stayed crispy very well and have a similar seasoning. I think Houston's might be a slightly fatter crinkle cut.

Anyway you won't regret getting this, I want to try it again in person to see if they stay crispier outside of the box they travel in. Give it a try, but DAVES is still my go to easily and it...

Was gonna go to Dave's but I was already at Costco so I decides to try this place out. Ordered and was supposed to be ready in half an hour. Cool! Shopped and took a little longer than expected, showed up about 15 minutes after the pickup time.

When I told the cashier the pickup number, she said there was no order. Showed her the app, and she proceeded to give me someone else's order. When I told her I hadn't ordered this, she was irritated and shouted at her coworkers in the back and stormed off. I received the chicken (also turned out to not be mine) but when I told her the fries I ordered weren't there, she frustratedly let out a big sigh and got them. She tossed the bag on the counter and said "here ya go." Thanks. Maybe she was having a bad day, but not a good first impression lol.

Chicken was kinda bland but the fries were alright. The chicken portions were huge, but I just wasn't a fan personally. Maybe it wouldve been more complete if I had gotten the waffles? Not mad, just disappointed i guess. The interior was nice! I think they just need a better system of organizing the orders, because she had to check every bag...
