We were just passing through the area and was told THIS is the place to go for a great breakfast.
We were DEFINITELY pointed in the right direction!
The Original Pancake House did not disappoint!
My wife and I got the same egg-beaters omelet, her's with bacon, mine with ham. The balance of all the meat (which was extremely generous) and vegetables was spot on. She got the original pancakes, which were exceptional! I know this, not only because she said so but because she ate them all, and really enjoyed them, something she rarely does as the carbs through her off sometimes. I opted for the buckwheat version, which are inherently flatter, but the flavors were also outstanding! The ONLY miss was that they weren't warm enough, not cold, but almost.
As I was finishing my omelet, I realized that I had forgotten to get the one thing that I was told that I HAD to try, the Dutch Pancake! I ordered the Baby Dutch, and our EXCELLENT waitress, Missy, did let me know that as they are only made when ordered it would be about a 25-minute wait. No problem! (One reviewer commented on the wait time for this signature item and downgraded the ranking, perhaps they didn't understand that they are only made to order, and not an attempt to speed the service (as they assumed) to clear the table!🙄🤦♂️). There is some assembly required. The traditional accompaniment is a lemon flavored glaze, so the components, whipped butter, powdered sugar, and fresh lemon wedges are brought to the table for you to mix together to suit your tastes. The Baby Dutch was brought out when reading, fresh and piping hot! SOOOOOO glad I didn't miss the chance to experience it!
Thank you, Missy, for your excellent service and Original Pancake House for the wonderful experience! Hope to be back if we find ourselves in...
Read moreI’ve been coming to The Original Pancake House since I was a kid, born and raised here in Toledo. It’s always been a special spot for me, and I decided to finally take my youngest son today since he’s been craving pancakes. Unfortunately, this visit was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had there.
We waited a little over two hours total, and only about 15 minutes of that was actual eating time. Our server was dismissive from the start—smiling and friendly to everyone else, but not to us until we had already been waiting over an hour and a half. He claimed there was a computer issue in the kitchen, which may or may not have been true, but regardless the service never improved.
When food finally arrived, my biscuits and gravy were inedible (I only forced a few bites because I was starving). The eggs, bacon, and pancakes were tasty, and my son enjoyed his pancakes and hash browns, but much of what we ordered never even came—missing two orders of bacon, a side of hash browns, and a whole pancake meal I had ordered to take home for my older son. Drinks were neglected too; it took about an hour just to get coffee refills.
When I brought the receipt issue up, the server admitted he forgot items but didn’t offer any apology or explanation, just smiled awkwardly and walked away. At the register, the cashier also didn’t seem to care when I mentioned the food was just “okay.” For a bill of $55 for basically eggs, bacon, pancakes, and coffee (at $8 for 2 cups!), I left feeling frustrated and disappointed.
I still love The Original Pancake House and know they can do much better, but this experience was unacceptable. Management really needs to address service quality and ensure guests are actually receiving what...
Read moreI’ve gave this place two tries already. And I am not sure what the hype is about. The first time I had ordered the famous German pancake and I couldn’t even finish it. I never had German pancakes but I’ve had lots of different pancakes and I love to try new things. German pancake had an extremely eggy taste to it and it was even yellow. I felt like I was eating an omelet mixed with pancake and just overall texture/taste was not for me. We also ordered the plain crepes and although I wouldn’t call them French crepes and don’t taste anything like it, they were good. Not great just good. Second time I ordered blueberry crepes (big mistake). Did not taste at all like the plain crepes I ordered last time. I think all the frozen blueberries that cook them with and throw on top just makes the crepes very soggy. But also now the crepes had very eggy taste, which I’ve never experienced from crepes before. Also I do wish their crepes were more crispier like traditional crepes from everyone else I’ve had. Also they did not put any powdered sugar on my crepes. Now I did like the buckwheat pancakes and the portion was HUGE. I ordered take out both times so can’t rate the...
