American Burgers — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

Very good burgers in a small joint that's been here for quite a while now, so they are doing something right and have staying power. They have quite a selection of burgers on their menu, mostly named after each state with their own set of toppings, but if one of their many offerings isn't exactly what you want, I'm certain you can order your own unique toppings. The only questionable thing is their buns, which don't always seem to standup well to their juicy burgers and toppings.

I really like their onion rings (be sure to ask for them "well done" as they are better really crunchy). I have not had their fries yet though. Whether it is their fires or onion rings, it would be really good if they made them freshly sliced potatoes and freshly breaded rings .... I think this would drive a bigger following to their shop.

They have a handful of tables and counter seating and are decorated in various Americana (i.e. license plates, posters, etc.). They also offer beer, hard cider and such along with soft drinks of course.

Also, they only accept cash, so be sure to brings some. They offer an ATM on-site, but of course you're gonna pay a fee of $2.75 to...

Ordered on the phone a Sunday night for pickup, lady was rude from the start, hung up when i didn’t even finish my order, of a burger and salad. I was suprised when she didn’t even ask how i wanted my burger cooked from a burger “specialty” place that “makes their own beef blend”. I called back and told her i wanted it medium. I get to this place and it’s empty inside, one worker on her phone whom didn’t even greet me. I go to pay and it turns out the place is cash only.. would’ve been nice to know when i place an order on the phone, i then had to go grab cash. Come back. Pick the food up. This burger was not only mediocre at best, but made me extremely sick for days after eating. I couldn’t stomach any food or liquids and had to go to the hospital. Food poisoning. I’m gonna assume based on the workers lack of care attitude that they didn’t clean properly and gave me old, bad meat. Will be avoiding this place...

Came here with high hopes based on reviews of others. However, I left pretty disappointed. They’ve got a burger for every state but there’s not very much difference between any of them. As the norm I was asked how I would like my burger cooked and requested medium rare but got it cooked very far past that. Lacked the juiciness I love from a good burger. It looked fantastic going onto the grill and was salivating at the thought of how good it looked but it was evident there was much seasoning done to the beautiful piece of meat that made its way to the grill. Not very great presentation either. I will say though, the place is nice and cozy and the workers are friendly. The portion of the meal was great, I can’t say I didn’t leave without a full stomach. One last thing, you best come with cash unless you want to...
