House of Yoshin, what did we do to deserve you?
Each Yoshin team member provided the highest level of service at every turn. From our valet that handled parking, to Roxy and Alex who saw to our every whim in the dining area, to our chefs and our bartenders, it was clear that the focus of the staff was to actively seek opportunities to deliver an exceptional dining experience.
So, what exactly is Kaiseki? Kaiseki is a multi-course Japanese meal, elevated to an art form. A staggering amount of effort goes into the design of each dish, the planning of the menu as a whole, and the presentation/plating of each course.
The Kaiseki Counter was our front-row seat to watch Chefs Ishizaki and Dome, two affable professionals dedicated to pursuing perfection of their art. Somehow, they magically balance guest interaction with the meticulous preparation and presentation of each dish. The atmosphere here is modern, traditional and immaculate, yet it effortlessly manages a warm and friendly vibe. I forged an immediate connection to the space, in part thanks to the texture and warmth of the wooden counter from which we excitedly watched our chefs work.
My desire to document the evening with my camera had to take a backseat to the need to experience our chef's creations without delay, upon arrival, and at the peak of each dish's beauty and designed temperature. Some things are divine and ephemeral, and as such, must be shown due respect. I resigned myself to taking “mental screenshots” in order to remain in the moment, and present to absorb this extraordinary experience. In keeping with the tradition of Kaiseki, every component of each course was carefully and thoughtfully curated. Exotic imported items like black truffle, A5 Wagyu, baby squid, and Japanese Sea Bream were married with locally sourced ingredients at the peak of their seasonal perfection. Yoshin's Kaiseki menu is a commitment to the presentation of fine delicacies, prepared employing an array of cooking methods, and served on tableware harmonious with the offering. Each of the six courses was exquisite, unique, and served to pique our interest for what lay ahead. The meal's crescendo, an apple sweet bun served with made-in-house ice cream was a subtle, yet delicious symphony of flavors and textures. With a final sip of Hoji tea, we begrudgingly bid farewell to our chefs and retired to the lounge for a cocktail and a snack!
The bar area is especially intimate, bathed in warm lighting, it has a dignified, luxurious feel; here we sipped handcrafted cocktails from our cozy, quiet booth. An assortment of gorgeous small plates is available to accompany your libation, all prepared with the same skillful attention to detail. Here I enjoyed the finest espresso martini I've ever had. Bursting with rich, dark, freshly roasted flavor and garnished with a wisp of espresso cotton candy [see pics], it was enough to bring a tear to the eye of this jaded javaphile.
A very special thank you to our host Scott for making this memorable evening possible for my mother and me. You and your team are clearly dedicated to delivering world-class service and we appreciate the opportunity to have been your guests.

If House of Yoshin were a movie, it would likely win an Oscar for “Best Performance by an Ingredient in a Leading Role.” This is not just a meal—it’s an experience, a journey, a spiritual awakening - disguised as dinner. Forget your notions of sushi bars and predictable omakase. Here, the chefs orchestrate flavors with the precision of a samurai and the soul of a poet.
Let’s talk about the three-day cooked onion—an onion so deeply transformed, so caramelized into submission, it could make a grown adult weep. The A5 wagyu is so buttery it should come with a warning: “May cause existential crises about every steak you’ve ever eaten before.” The fish in miso broth whispers ancient secrets to your taste buds, while the charcoal rice with salmon and octopus roe delivers smoky, briny bursts of flavor that feel like the ocean is hugging your soul. You will travel to far-off places you have likely never gone before. A mystical journey through Japanese culture and cuisine.
And the baby squid? Let’s just say it’s prepared with such delicate reverence that you may briefly consider writing poetry about it before devouring. Oh tender sprite of ocean deep, now kissed by fire, now mine to keep. A whispered brine, a fleeting glow, a masterpiece of plated woe. That’s the poem that was inspired by my baby squids. Perhaps yours will be different.
The attention to detail by the staff at HoY is Michelin-star caliber. Every interaction, every adjustment, every nuance is handled with a level of precision and care that speaks to true mastery. From the moment you arrive, House of Yoshin meets you with a seamless blend of expertise and intuition. The staff anticipates your needs before you even voice them.
House of Yoshin isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a temple of taste, a shrine to umami, a place where time slows down and flavors unfold like a perfectly written haiku. Come with an open mind and an empty stomach, and leave forever changed.
I cannot end this without paying homage to the bar, whiskey and craft cocktails. A masterclass in balance and artistry, where every pour, infusion, and garnish is executed with exacting precision. Each drink tells a story - whether a delicate interplay of rare Japanese spirits, house-made syrups, and fresh botanicals. Bold interpretations of classics with unexpected depth. I’d go back just to sit at the downstairs bar… and we won’t even mention the Members Only whiskey experience available on the top floor. Get involved.
Would give it six stars if I could. 10/10. Would consider selling a less vital organ to re-visit. Perhaps a child as well if they talk back too...

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the friendliest staff who within seconds made us feel right at home. The entire staff went out of their way to introduce themselves, ask our names, and made us feel like we were part of the family. The overall vibe was sophisticated and chill all wrapped in one. The décor was swanky and cool.
Now onto the food. Wow. Just…wow. We started in a lounge area where we were served specialty Japanese Fusion cocktails and appetizers. The waiter explained to us the traditions behind every dish! My favorite was a goat cheese appetizer that melted in my mouth.
After a couple of drinks and fun apps we were moved to the Kaiseki counter where they sat about 4-5 couples. The chef curated the menu based on seasonal availability of all the ingredients. There were 6 courses in the menu, followed by tea. Even the chef took the time to explain the authenticity behind every dish and we had the opportunity to watch them preparing every course! The fish was ocean-to-table, literally, we got to see the fish before they prepared it. Most of the 6 courses were all different types of food that we had never tried before, we appreciated the opportunity to really immerse ourselves and try new cuisine!
We wrapped up the evening by having a night cap upstairs at the whiskey bar and had a chance to socialize with the staff and the other couples who at with us at the Kaiseki counter. House of Yoshin was not just ‘going out to dinner’, it was truly an ‘experience’, unlike anywhere else that we have been on Long Island. We felt like we were on a romantic date night in the city. Very impressed. We can’t...
