New Wave Burrito Bar — Restaurant in Town of Huntington

Have been to new wave & their sister restaurant vauxhall a few times since moving to Huntington and all of our experiences have been positive. Not only are the food and drinks consistently delicious, the workers of both restaurants are extremely friendly and outgoing. Whether dining inside or outside they are attentive and just have great attitudes all the way around. Makes me want to come enjoy the atmosphere even more frequently. Kudos to the teams running these spots!

EDIT 11/6/23: We have been back here a few times since my initial review & have had mixed experiences each time. The first time we were attracted by happy hour advertisements on their Instagram, it's only 2-5pm M-F but includes discounts on margaritas and on several apps. We showed up one day at 4pm and sat down and ordered, had a great time, then the bill came & it was full price. We asked about HH and were informed it was "at the bar only". This was not made clear at all in the ads and didn't really sit well with us, but we paid the full price and left.

We went back again this past week and arrived around 4-430pm and sat at the bar to take advantage of the HH this time. Ordered margaritas (should have been $2 off per) as well as corn and chips trio, both also in the HH menu. Food was great, drinks were good, no problems there. Check arrives, full price yet again. I asked why we didn't get happy hour prices & the bartender was confused and had to ask someone else. Came back with an updated check that reduced the margaritas to HH price, but not the food. Again said that this was not correct & he again was confused and had to go speak to someone else. Came back with another updated check this time with correct prices.

I don't think the staff fully is aware of this happy hour promotion, and while I understand it's only 2-5pm M-F, it truly seems this is just a way to attract people in but it doesn't seem they actually care to honor these prices or make you aware of the requirements to partake.

The food is always really good and the restaurant is overall a great place to go, but making me have to send back the check not once but twice to get charged accurately rubs me the wrong way. Please train up the staff & maybe have HH menus available, advertise it more in the restaurant?

Came back to new wave and had a much, much improved experience. Sat at the bar and met Raul, the owner, and he waited on us and made our drinks. Everything came out miles better than previous experience. Drinks were good and made consistently, food came out hot and tasted great! New menu also extended happy hour until 6pm. We really enjoyed our experience at New Wave. We were visiting family and walked around Huntington Village before New Wave caught our eye. We decided to grab lunch there and were very happy with our choice.

Food: As an appetizer, we got the chips dip trio. It's great way to try the queso, salsa, and guacamole. They also were very friendly and gave us extra chips. The queso was delicious, did need a little salt according to me. The guacamole tasted fresh and they even made it spicy for us.

For entree, I got the Vegan chick n' with Nashville hot oil. They were DELICIOUS. Perfectly crispy and the right amount of spicy and cool. The sauce they add to it gives it the perfect contrast. I got three huge tacos for only $15. My husband got their Nashville Fried Chicken and he told me he really enjoyed the real chicken version as well.

Price: Very reasonable especially for the portion size. When they say 3 tacos, they do NOT mean small tiny ones, they are actually hearty sized.

Ambiance: I love the vibe of the bar. It felt like a California surfer vibe yet more upscale. I also like the color scheme in the restaurant. They had casual but nice dish ware. You can clearly tell a lot of thought was put into the set up of the restaurant.

Service: Very very impressed with the service. Everyone there was very friendly and so patient with us. We kept trying to sit outside and then it would start raining and they would help us transition back inside. Not once did they give us a hard time.

I am updating my review as I can see the owner of this establishment has responded to my review below. I listed the pros and cons, but this establishment does not take constructive feedback well.

This restaurant refuses to offer a side of Cholula hot sauce for their to-go orders even though it is always served for free with dine-in orders. This is very poor customer service and offering us to buy a whole bottle of hot sauce is simply unprofessional. If this establishment says they can’t afford to provide one side of sauce with their to-go orders that is offered for FREE for dine-in, then how can they expect their customers to buy a whole bottle of hot sauce from them!? —————————

Very pleased that this spot offers a variety of vegan options. We got the vegan crunch wrap and vegan Latin burrito. Both were a little pricey, but a decent size portion and served with warm tortilla chips. Good amount of indoor seating and located near lots of parking. Nice ambiance for date night or family dinner.

The flavors were good for both items, but both were missing a cream sauce or guacamole texture that would have balanced out the salty flavor nicely. Also, the hot sauce packets they give you for to-go orders are really more of a Chinese hot sauce compared to Cholula hot sauce they serve for dine in.
