My first experience at Mama Rosa, a Mexican restaurant recommended by a friend, turned out to be absolutely wonderful. We went there to celebrate my friend’s one-year surgery anniversary, arriving around 3 p.m. during the lunch hours. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance was inviting—spacious, spotless, and decorated in vibrant traditional Mexican style with Spanish music playing softly in the background. We ordered several dishes from the lunch menu, including chicken enchiladas, steak churrasco, chicken coyote fajitas, and fried calamari from the regular menu. Every dish was flavorful and cooked to perfection—the meats were juicy and tender, served with generous portions of rice, beans, chips, and a side salad. The variety of sauces was impressive, catering to every palate. We also enjoyed a refreshing margarita and pinot grigio, which complemented the food perfectly. Our waiter, Felipe, provided outstanding service - he was always present at just the right moment, refilling our water, clearing plates, and checking in with a warm smile. When he took a break, Miguel stepped in and maintained the same level of attentiveness. The restaurant manager, Maria, also stopped by from time to time to ensure everything was going smoothly. For dessert, we had ice cream, and to our delight, we were served complimentary hot red wine - an unexpected and thoughtful touch that made our visit even more special. Mama Rosa also has a great happy hour until 5 p.m., offering discounted drinks, appetizers, and wings. They have party packages available with different menu options based on the size of the group and preferences, making it a great choice for celebrations. On Fridays and Sundays, they feature live mariachi performances, and for special occasions like Cinco de Mayo, they offer all-day $5 tequila shots, live DJ entertainment, and happy hour pricing until 5 p.m. Though the parking is limited and we had to park in a nearby plaza (which isn’t recommended due to towing risks), everything else about this place exceeded expectations. They have several locations besides the one we visited, including branches in Jackson Heights and Monroe, Connecticut. I highly recommend Mama Rosa to anyone who enjoys Latin American cuisine. If I could give them more than five stars, I...
Read moreMy takeout order as described on the online menu: Tostones Flautas Deep Fried rolled up corn tortilla, stuffed with chicken - when ordering online, I tried to pick that option in the description. However, that option wasn't available? This is what popped up as per their website Substitute Protein (Flautas) - Choose one * Grilled Steak (+$2.00) Chorizo (+$2.00) Grilled Chicken (+$2.00) So I chose grilled chicken, which was dry. However, everything else was soggy.
Chimichangas Rolled-up fried flour tortilla filled with a choice of shredded chicken, ground beef, or shrimp sofrito. Choose your Protein (Chimichangas) - Choose one * Ground Beef Shredded Chicken Shrimp Sofrito (+$5.00) Grilled Steak (+$5.00) Vegetables (+$3.00) I chose grilled steak, minus the soggy bottoms & glops of sour cream & guacamole in the same container. This was the most flavorful item I ordered. As well as the black beans.
I understand you want to be gourmet/upscale. However, that doesn't translate well with takeout/delivery! EVERYTHING was soggy! I don't understand why you'd put wet shredded lettuce with tostones? Wet shredded lettuce with deep fried plantains in an aluminum tin covered equals steam. Results in soggy plantains. The ONLY tiny container was the garlic oil for the soggy plantains. Flautas, another fried food that was soggy not only because of the aluminum covered container, you add all the wet condiments on the bottom & top of Flautas that are fried Then, the chimichangas 2 deep fried burritos with soggy bottoms thrown in an aluminum covered container with wet shredded lettuce along with two huge glops of sour cream (1) & guacamole (2). Why isn't the guacamole & sour cream in the same size container as the garlic oil for the tostones? As well as the Flautas glops? I hold myself accountable for ordering fried takeout. However, this didn’t have to be a SOGGY experience. I see & taste potential in this establishment. I will try again with ordering takeout to hopefully have a better experience. I do understand that dining in is a...
Read moreWe had a fantastic dining experience at Mama Rosa! From the moment we walked in, the staff was so accommodating, and they went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. Even though we opted for mocktails, they didn’t skimp on the creativity – our virgin mojito was fresh, zesty, and absolutely delicious!
A big shoutout to our server Nick, who was beyond amazing. He was attentive, super friendly, and made us feel like we were VIPs all night. His recommendations were spot on.
We kicked off the night with the tableside guac, which was made fresh right in front of us – so flavorful and loaded with everything we love in a great guac. Then we tried the plantains with shrimp, which were a total hit. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the garlic sauce added an incredible depth of flavor.
For our entrees, we ordered the shrimp volcano – definitely a unique dish that brought some excitement to the table – and the skillet, which was a comforting, hearty meal. Both came with rice, beans, and plantains – classic, delicious sides that tied everything together beautifully.
But the real star of the night was dessert. The churros, made in-house, were out of this world – soft and fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and paired perfectly with a sweet dipping sauce.
All in all, Mama Rosa is a must-visit spot. Amazing food, fantastic service, and a vibrant atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Highly...
