My friend and I decided to check out this restaurant one Friday late afternoon, and while the food was exceptional, the overall experience left much to be desired. Located within walking distance from public transportation, the absence of parking at the front was notable. Instead of a warm welcome, a “We Support Israel” sign greeted us, setting an unexpected political tone. The lack of a traditional greeting from the waitress, who promptly handed us menus and divided our table, felt impersonal. Nevertheless, the culinary journey began promisingly with a delightful appetizer of hummus with mushrooms, followed by a savory Syrian kebab as the main course. The molten chocolate cake served for dessert was a sweet conclusion to the meal. Accompanying our selections were a ruby red grapefruit cosmopolitan and a fresh fruit margarita, both of which were refreshing. However, the service shortcomings became apparent as we progressed through the evening. The absence of cloth napkins and the provision of only one paper napkin each were disappointing, considering the price paid. Additionally, the need for specificity in ordering, such as requesting ice water with ice, highlighted a lack of attention to detail. Attempting to capture the waitress’ (Stella’s) attention proved challenging, as she was often engrossed in conversations with other staff members or acquaintances. Despite periodic check-ins, the overall level of attentiveness fell short. Upon receiving the bill, we were surprised by an unexpected price increase for the main course, attributed to a post-4 p.m. billing policy. While the waitress kindly adjusted the price, this discrepancy should have been clearly indicated on the menu. In conclusion, despite the restaurant’s culinary prowess, the overall dining experience was marred by subpar service and unexpected pricing policies. While I would rate the food and drinks highly, I urge the establishment to prioritize improving its service standards to ensure a more enjoyable dining experience for future patrons.

This Middle Eastern gem has drawn us back twice within the past two weeks, and each visit has impressed us more. Having traveled from Manhattan to Great Neck via the LIRR train from Penn Station, we found the journey to be relatively quick and convenient, setting the stage for our delightful experience at Rothchilds Coffee & Kitchen. Recommended by locals, the service was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff. What We Tried: Roasted Beets with Labneh: A vibrant medley of flavors. Hummus and Chickpeas: Smooth and rich homemade hummus served with warm pita. Grilled Salmon: Moist and flavorful, served with cauliflower cream and lentil stew. Minute Steak Skillet: Tender rib-eye steak with a mix of sweet and regular potatoes. Syrian Kebab: Bold and aromatic, served with tahini and majadra rice & lentil. Desserts: Carrot Cake: Perfectly balanced in sweetness and texture. Halva with Ice Cream: A unique and indulgent treat. Rothchilds Coffee & Kitchen offers an exceptional Middle Eastern dining experience in Great Neck. The journey from Manhattan is well worth it for the delicious food, warm service, and inviting atmosphere. We highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to our next visit!

TLDR: Neighborhood spot in Great Neck. Middle Eastern fare with some creative twists. Brussel sprouts caesar, chicken schnitzel. Wandered on a weekend and was pleasantly surprised. It's a small neighborhood restaurant in Great Neck. The brusell sprouts caesar was crispy, a bit of saltiness with the caesar but the dried canberries was a nice touch. Fried cauliflower was good as well, bright acidity and lots of flavors. For mains, the burger was a good size portion and it's cool how you can mix both regular and sweet potato fries. Schnitzel was my favorite. It's a very large schnitzel with mashed and definitely ask for some schug. The chicken was tender, breaded well but a good size. I especially loved adding the schug to the chicken and the mashed too. By the end I was dipping the chicken in the mashed with the schug. Definitely will return.

UPDATED REVIEW 9/17/19: I am posting an update as the service and meal experience has done downhill. My last visit was very disappointing. 3 out of 4 entrees ordered - we received the wrong item. When this was mentioned to the waitress, she got an attitude and tried to force us to take the wrong items. I was really craving what I ordered, so asked politely that she still bring me my specific entree. The waitress got upset and tried to prove to me that the wrong item can totally replace the one I ordered - however she was wrong. Mine had mushrooms, and other sides, while the "Rothchilds breakfast" didn't have them. So, I again, politely asked for what I had originally ordered. Not once did this woman offer an apology or own the mistake. Instead she was angry. When she finally did bring to me what I wanted (once my eggs were ice cold), I said thank you so much, and she turned around and left without saying anything (continuing to be angry). The whole experience left a terrible taste in my mouth and the lukewarm cappuccino did not make things better. I will try to give them another chance but only if I absolutely have to go, however, I'll stick to other options from now on.

REVIEW from 2018: What a pleasant experience. The location is great - as there's a municipal parking lot just around the corner. The ambiance is very nice, cozy and down to earth. The waiters are very sweet and the owners come up a few times to ask if all is ok. The service is impeccable. Most importantly, every single dish that we ordered tasted great and could not have been any better. I truly hope it stays as pleasant to visit. It's a great place for a quick coffee run, or to catch up with a friend, or even to celebrate an occasion. Keep up the great work, Rothschild's!...

Drinks: Goldstar dark lager from Israel! Reasonably priced wines and beers with some other interesting drinks available.

Atmosphere: Relaxed, clean and pleasant environment. Natural woods and good lighting.

Service: The host/hostess (not sure if they were the owners) could not have been more accommodating. Our waiter Jose was very attentive and informative. Excellent service.

Price: Reasonable prices. Appetizers range $8-$16. Entrees from $14 to $26.

Parking: Metered street parking or the lots in the back.

Allergy: Not nut friendly. Unsure about gluten

Pretty and relaxed restaurant. Mediterranean menu with a twist/flair. Specials everyday. Ours were interesting and sounded delicious including the Watermelon gazpacho. Service was excellent. Not a long wait for the food. Food was served hot and was delicious. Tuna Crustini was slightly spicy with crunchy toast and fresh tuna. The flavors contrasted and was excellent. The veggie burger made with quinoa and lentils was very tasty. I don't like a mushy veggie burger. Despite this flaw (it was crunchy on the outside) I finished it because it tasted so good. Grilled salmon on a cauliflower cream with lentils was cooked to perfection. Fish was flaky and tasty. The vegetables were excellent. My cousin's wife had a salad and said it was one of the best she has ever had. I recommend this restaurant highly. Missed 5 stars because that is saved for those out of this world savory...
