After reading Matthew Fields review I wanted to add to the discussion, my ice cream purchasing experience with the staff at the HUB Ice Cream Factory.
I understand Mr., Fields discontent with the service he received, and it's his given right to express what’s on ones mind. Social media has given everyone a voice that can be heard. No longer do you have to shout out over the throng, all you have to do is get on your smartphone and Yelp, Facebook, Google your options to the world wide audience.
Speaking for myself, I go into a situation with an expectation of what I envisage appropriate for the course of events that are to take place. For this matter I was envisioning the kind of facilitation constant to a counter service establishment, e.g., Starbucks, Chipotle or In-n-Out. I frequent these types of establishments contemplating the product they provide. Going to In-n-Out I’m not thinking about the person at the register in their all white uniforms and goofy hats, all I care about is my Double-Double Burger animal style with fries and a Coke, i.e., a number 1 combo. If there is something wrong with my food then yes, we have a problem. Even at this point I’m not getting out my smartphone.
Having drawn out and made you to endure my loquacious review. For me I was expecting really good ice cream. The décor was pleasing; the staff was attentive and knowledgeable and had no problems answering questions about the flavors on offer. The person who tended to me was like a sommelier for ice cream. In this instance the HUB Ice Cream Factory exceeded my expectations. If I went in thinking I was going to get the service due at a Michelin 3 star restaurant then yes my smartphone would come out, but would that be a just review….no. I’m not belittling the reviews of others, just trying to put into perspective the momentousness of the modern version of the soapbox...
Read moreThe Hub Ice Cream Factory is a welcome addition to the downtown Tucson scene. The ambiance is nice, clean, with just a little bit of quirky - in other words, totally Tucson.
This place is not your everyday, average ice cream parlor. They make their ice cream in house using high quality ingredients. The lineup of flavors puts it squarely into the gourmet ice cream category. Some delightful ice cream options include: queen bee, lavender, cheesecake, prickly pear, and other odd and fun flavors unique to Tucson and the desert southwest.
In terms of COVID-19 compliance, the Hub is taking all necessity precautions. During our last trip there, they had a lot of prepackaged ice cream for purchase to take home. We were the only ones physically in the shop, and there was outside seating available to customers incapable of eating their ice cream while walking.
If you have kids who play Pokémon Go, the Hub is a Poke stop, and there are many stops right near there all down Congress...
Read moreUnique and tasty ice cream flavors, made-to-order waffle cones, and color-changing spoons! We got honey cornbread, Mexican wedding cookie, and coal, which I suspect is seasonal. The coal was a smooth textured coconut ice cream infused with charcoal to get the black/ grey color and was my favorite of the three. Mexican wedding cookie had whole bite-sized cookies in it which were delicious. Honey cornbread had chunks of cornbread in it that gave it a cake and ice cream like texture. The person working was super nice and made the waffle cone fresh for us and it was HEAVENLY. It stayed warm till the very end and was so perfectly crunchy and fresh tasting. A must get for sure! Also, the color-changing spoons are cold sensitive...
