TL;DR This place definitely isn't bad, but it isn't amazing either. Service could be better. Pizza can be bland. Get the Tenbysimmo if you like meat! It's good.
We ended up getting fried mozzarella slices for the appetizer and 3 pizzas (because of an issue I'll get to later) for our entrees.
When we got there the wait staff was nice and pleasant like you'd expect from any restaurant. We were seated at a small table for two and the bartender came to get our drink order. We both ordered just some water and then waited for a moment. Another girl came over and was explaining things to us because we had never been there before when the bartender came over and said she had our table. They were both a little confused, but in the end the waitress just said "sorry about that!" With a pleasant smile and went to handle the next table. In my head I was thinking "no come back you were doing a really good job at explaining things!" The bartender left to get our water and appetizer in. We got half of an explanation though, so we figured we would be fine.
The fried mozzarella was just that-mozzarella with breading. No seasoning really that I could taste, so the sauce had to do all the work which was a little unfortunate.
After we ate our appetizer a decent size group came into the bar celebrating a special occasion. This in turn took more attention away from my table to focus on the large group of people. I would be fine with that if it wasn't for the fact that the bartender cut off the other waitress to say she had our section. The entire time this was been happening, my girlfriend and I both have drank all our water and have just been pleasantly talking to pass the time.
Now, for the pizza. We ordered the Tenbysimmo and the wild mushroom. A third, different person brought out the pizza and finally refilled our water. The Tenbysimmo was very good which is the saving grace here. I highly recommend this pizza if you are a meat lover. It's bursting with savory flavor and the crust is nice and soft. We did not get the mushroom pizza at first. They told us they confused the order when bringing us an Andolini's Diavolo (calabrian sausage, chili flake & pistachios) definitely not mushrooms. That being said, they offered to let us have it for free and make a mushroom pizza as well which we accepted. After two bites of the Diavolo, it was pushed aside. Whoever thinks hot sausage and oven baked pistachios is a good flavor combination has some interesting taste.
Our mushroom pizza came out. Unfortunately it was almost like they didn't season the mushrooms at all. That just left mozzarella and olive oil to do the heavy lifting on this pizza and it really fell short. The bartender checked on us once or twice while we were eating, but never refilled our water. I had to go ask her for the check. She asked to refill my water when she brought it to us, but at that point I just kindly declined and filled out the tip and total lines.
I think we came here with pretty high hopes and just received below average service and average pizza. The service issue could have been avoided if the bartender just let the waitress take over while she worked a busy bar. A big part of any team is realizing when you might be hurting your service and delegating tasks to someone with a...
Read moreWe arrived shortly after 8pm. According to their online hours, they close at 10pm. We ordered two slices of pizza, as two different individuals, and a beer. We asked to sit in the back and were told that was not an option because the back was closed when there were guests clearly seated in the back, a bartender working in the back, and the TVs were on. We received our pizza slices together in a to go box. No silverware. No plates. Nothing. In a to go box. I received a beer in a glass and two conjoined pizza slices in a to go box. We got the message but actually went out to eat instead of ordering pizza because idk, we wanted to go out to eat. We asked for plates and silverware. We were given flimsy paper plates and plastic ware. We asked again for actual plates and real silverware which we eventually received. We have enjoyed this place for years and unfortunately the service model of trying to get rid of your customers from the moment they walk in left a lot to be desired. Pizza was great but could have been warmer. Service was not. We also tipped generously for a counter service restaurant so not sure why we were treated like pests. Edit: My partner also told me their pizza was cold. We also watched as 2 people who walked in after us were turned away when looking for friends because “the back is closed and they’re probably at Cherry street”, these folks thought they saw their friends seated in the back-and two additional people who were turned away who clearly expected a sit down meal and were also told the back was closed and were ubruptly asked if they wanted their pizza “for here or to go” as if neither option were preferable to any of the staff. All four customers walked out looking confused. I worked as a server for 10 years, a sit down restaurant is a sit down restaurant unless otherwise stated. Unless a customer orders a piece of pizza to go, especially ordered along with an alcoholic beverage, that pizza is not to go. This is a place that serves dessert (dessert which must be consumed on the premises, by the way) and the vibe has always been to order a slice and a beer or two, maybe get gelato after. The vibe has always been welcoming, not sure what happens after 8pm that changes those standards. Totally can empathize with not giving a hoot about your job when you’re 19 and I’m not trying to be a Karen, but when people spend 25$ on two slices of pizza and a drink before a tip, 2 hours before closing… my position would be to maybe give them an actual plate and let them sit where where...

Maybe it was because it was a little after 9 o'clock. Maybe it was because it was a Monday night. Maybe it was because we were two of only 5, maybe 6 other paying customers. Whatever the case may be, what is usually a favorite of mine really let us down this past evening. Keep in mind I don't typically review bad experiences, but the way the service treated me and my date was kinda screwed up.
We came in for pizza and drinks and I decided to sit at the bar for quicker drinks and presumably quicker service. That may have been the case, had the bartender (Sarah S.) not been more interested in the two other people at the bar. Once she decided to help us, ordering the food was straightforward enough, but after that - it went downhill. We waited to order drinks for so long that eventually my date told me what she wanted and then walked away to use the restroom. When the bartender finally decided to check on me (one of the two times she did after our initial order), I ordered drinks and then added an appetizer to the meal...which we never got. In fact, after the food came (that the other side of the house delivered), Sarah immediately dropped our ticket in front of us. We were maybe one bite in.
After that, there was no further interaction - in fact, I had my card on the receipt for a good 15 minutes and it took someone from the other side of the house to walk around for something else, notice my card, look at our bartender who was now talking to the other staff member, and then run our card.
Look... I'm the product of a broken home, so I can deal with being ignored. But I didn't have to pay for that neglect - this time I did and it left a pretty bad taste in my mouth and I hope it's an isolated incident.
There was a silver lining: after I paid my bar/food tab, I walked to the front and saw the gelato. Got a single scoop and the help there really packed it on and did so quickly. In fact, they were ready to help me immediately while the people in front of us waffled on deciding what to order. That got them a 50% tip. Sure...50% of $4 is $2, but the last time I checked, 50 is more than 18.
I like Andolini's. I like the food, I like the atmosphere, I like the garlic knots, and I like the caprese (when I can actually get it, that is). So it's kind of like being in a crappy relationship: I'll keep coming back because my love supersedes the abuse in hopes that...
