Marcella's Doughnuts and Bakery — Restaurant in Union Township

Apparently smiling is a requirement to purchase donuts from this store.

I stopped at this location Friday to pick up a half dozen donuts. The employee that took my order was courteous and helpful. No issues there at all.

It wasn't until after the sale was complete that another (older) employee decided to speak to me and said "At least you can smile for your donuts."

Seriously? I'm supposed to smile because I'm trading money for goods? What's it to you that I'm not smiling? Never have I been treated that poorly in the previous seven years I've visited this store. No other business that I have visited has cared as to whether I'm smiling or not.

Even though there was a LOT I was thinking, I simply said "No" and when she was obviously upset that I wasn't willing to play her game I added "I'll determine what I smile about, thank you!"

In the past, I've enjoyed visiting this store because it's close and the donuts have always been good. But now I'm willing to drive a little further to another local bakery that won't be offended if I'm...

Stopped today based on reviews and got 8 assorted doughnuts of what was left. The only thing I tasted was grease and they were hard...my husband thought they were day old and commented that the doughnuts from Walmart bakery would have been a better choice. Very disappointing, won't be back.

Response to owner....WOW....rude and unprofessional to an HONEST review. I came to your business BECAUSE of the reviews and was excited to try something new. If you, as a business owner can not take constructive criticism maybe you are in the wrong business. Seeing as how you were closed when we tried your product it was difficult for you to "make it right" I take offense to being accused of posting a fake review to "bolster my buddies business" I don't have time for that nonsense. I have purchased doughnuts from Marcella's several times. The doughnuts are delicious. Occasionally I will try something new and not care for it, but I think that is to be expected. If there is anything to give feedback on it is this... If you are wanting Cronuts go early, like 06:00 early. I'll spare you a rant about bakeries and somehow not knowing what to make more of. I must note they are on the high side on costs, however, these are not Dunkin's.

Ok what I've tried...

Cronuts - It's a flakey layered doughnut, and they are amazing!

Lemon Filled - If you can get one and like lemon flavored stuff, try one.

Apple Pie - You'll only need one. It is just like an apple pie sans the crust, but the topping even makes up for that.
