I went over to MOD last Saturday and had basically a meat lovers, I don't remember the name. It was 11AM so the place was empty so service was rather quick but again I don't know how it would be if the place had been packed.
The staff was very friendly, they did a good job explaining the concept. I love that you can ask them to put any topping and it's not going to cost more. I do wish they would add more cheese, although I didn't try asking to see if they could just add more, maybe they would have.
This is certainly not the place I'd go to for pizza with a big group. The largest Pizza is an 11 inch and, well, for me that's basically personal size. So if you have a big group you'd be needing a lot of these at about $8 each. However for a few friends that just want some grub, this place is great.
So, how was the actual pizza? It was very good, it's thin crust, obviously that's needed in order to make it so quick, and they did make it rather quick. The curst comes out very nice, not soggy at all, I was able to easily grab a slice and fold it like a man.
The location is also great, it's like a TARDIS, it looks smaller on the outside. I noticed they have a patio section, when I went it wasn't set up but that's going to be a fun place during Summer.
Only thing I didn't like are the chairs. Luckily I was able to use one of the boothish tables where I was able to sit comfortably, but if you have a large rear or just big thighs then the chairs just suck because they are the kind that just squeeze you in there, like metal lawn chairs with useless arm rests that just hurt your sides. So those are definitely not big people friendly, but, like I said, there are other options that work fine.
Overall I enjoyed MOD pizza and I look forward to going again.
Oh yea, one last thing I didn't like, I hate it whenever I go to any place where they don't serve me my food but there is still a TIP line on the receipt. I don't feel like I should leave a tip, I ordered my food, they made it, I took care of going to get it. At the same time, I feel like a jerk filling out the receipt and writing 0...
Read moreI'm giving this 3 stars because the pizza is fast, cheap, and surprisingly good with a gluten free option. However, I probably won't return to the Vernon Hills location. Just went in at 8pm (they close at 10) for a quick bite after kids activities all evening. The 2 people working made a point to complain to each other loud enough for us to hear about the "rush" of people (there were about 2 other tables with people in the entire place-it was nearly empty) and how everyone must have gotten together and decided to go at the same time. We ordered and paid for a fountain drink and when we asked for our cup they made it seem like it was the end of the world. Basically they made us feel ashamed to be there and afraid to ask for anything. I hate to publicly criticize a business but in this case, what could be a great place is being ruined by employees who clearly don't want to be there and don't want returning...
Read moreA reasonably priced pizza spot where you can choose your own toppings. If you go during the day, it’s not bad, but in the evening it feels like a completely different restaurant with different service and food. First, even though there was still half an hour until closing, the staff were already preparing to leave and gave us unfriendly looks when we walked in. Second, the oven wasn’t cleaned properly, so the bottom crust came out covered in ash. It wasn’t that the pizza itself was burnt—the ash from the uncleaned oven stuck to the underside and made it black. Third, the toppings didn’t match what I ordered online. When I pointed it out, the staff responded with, “Do you want us to make it again? That’ll be a 15-minute wait,” which felt dismissive. On the bright side, the portion size is decent for the price. Overall, I’d recommend going during the day rather than...
