My wife and I love this place! After spending the last 45 years in California, we were disappointed that we couldn’t find an authentic Mexcian restaurant in Vero Beach. That is until we found El Rey about two months ago. Since then, we have been back SIX times. It is the most incredible food find since we moved to Vero.
The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is delicious. This is the real deal: homemade Mexican food cooked by the owners. We have tried several dishes, all with the same results. We have enjoyed our meals and hope they stay put, because when you crave Mexican food, you have to have it.
While I have been telling everyone I know about this place, they could do a few things to increase business. So, I do have a few suggestions for the owners. Their menu is fantastic, but not cheap by fast food standards. Those who come there won’t mind paying the price, but El Rey needs to know where they are located, which is a predominantly middle-class area with retired folks with disposable income looking for a decent and relaxing place to spend it.
The bar has a great selection, and the drinks are fantastic. However, I suggest lowering the volume of the music in the bar area and changing the genre occasionally to please a more diverse crowd. Add TVs around the bar with American sports games such as basketball, hockey, American football, etc. Have “game nights” for big games.
Overall, I would highly recommend El Rey for a perfect meal every time and a good night out at a real authentic Mexican restaurant. Go there. You will not be...
Read moreFirst and last time I will ever go back!!! let me start off by saying when I walked inside of this restaurant the manager was at the front and I told him it was my first time at this restaurant the guy just handed me the menu. I was axing questions about the tacos and that’s when the restaurant phone rang. He did not tell me hold on. He quickly picked up the phone and assisted whoever caught. I felt like that was very unprofessional for him not to even tell me to hold on, but just ignored me picked up the phone like I wasn’t standing there!!! After that, I told him that was not nice and he said OK I understand no apology! A few minutes later, he set up a young lady to take my order. I didn’t understand why he did that that was rude as well!!! I explain to the lady what just happened and she tells me oh, he didn’t understand what you were saying. He barely speaks English? I felt as though that was an excuse to take up for her boss because you shouldn’t have no one running the front host area that doesn’t speak English as well this is America! I still ordered my food because I was in a rush , I ordered three tacos that was really pricey came up to $17. Price is never a problem for me but make sure my food is made correctly. I asked for corn tortillas and they gave me flour tortillas and the chicken was not good at all out of all food chicken is something easy to make. I did not complain about having flour tortillas because by the time I sat in the car and started heading to I 95. That’s when I noticed it. I then threw...
Read moreThe most flavorful Mexican food I've ever had!! Worth every penny. 100 x's better than Aj Halisco too, so if you love that place you're gona melt when you try this place! We went for Valentine's Day and the place was super cute with decorations everywhere. They even had taco heart balloons, if you can picture that. They have happy hour every day, all day (except for Mondays), so drinks are 2x1. Naturally, we had margaritas 🍹 They even give you complimentary, unlimited chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and warm with the perfect amount of crunch. For entrees, we tried a steak and shrimp mix with refried beans and a guacamole salad. The steak and shrimp were absolutely perfection and seasoned so well. We also had the sesame chicken, but the Mexican version, as opposed to the traditional American-ized Chinese food version, and all I can say is WOW! I think Mexican Sesame Chicken is now my preferred favorite to Chinese Sesame Chicken (which has been a life-long favorite). It was so delicately fried and juicy with the perfect amount of sauce. We ate every bite and were so stuffed at the end. I would eat those dishes all over again. Will definitely be returning to try even more dishes. Can't wait!
P.S. The staff is super friendly, happy, and ready to serve. Our server was new, like maybe his first-night new, so he didn't know everything about the menu just yet, and had to ask about some dishes, which was totally okay. He was incredibly polite, attentive, and got us everything we needed in a timely fashion....
