I have heard so much about Commune I was a little too excited to go. This location is around the ocean front, great for tourist that are coming to visit or locals!
Great news, they have parking. Well, when I went. I don't know how it is on the actual weekend because I went on a Monday morning.
When you walk in, you are greeted by the hostess. My friends that I was meeting were already there. They ordered coffee and an appetizer for the two of them. When it was my time to order, I really didn't know what to get. The menu had nice stuff to order from however, I really didn't know what I was in the mood for. I was going to get the cornmeal waffle. My friend ended up ordering it. That consisted of either pasture raised fried chicken thigh or pork breakfast sausage, heirloom cornmeal waffles, a sunny side up farm egg, chamomile butter, and hickey syrup. She said that everything she had was good. however the chicken wasn't seasoned properly.
I ended up getting a breakfast sandwich off the $5 breakfast menu. It's Monday - Friday 8am to 10am. You can call in your order and grab it to go if in a rush! Great deal if you work around the area or live near. I got mine built like the classic breakfast sandwich. The classic consisted of sausage (or bacon, pick one lol), sunny side up egg (got mine cooked hard), sharp cheddar (I got pimento), & organic greens, on a sourdough brioche bread. That was a pretty good deal and it also comes with coffee or expresso. My total with tax came out to $5.58. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I wanted to try some since it came with the meal. A waiter came around asking if I wanted milk added. It seemed like. . when they come around with the cheese grater at italian restaurants lol.
Overall, the sandwich was really good. I wish I ended up getting extra sides because I was little hungry after. I'm a water drinker. It was a little weird to me that they had small cups. When going to a restaurant, I normally ask for two glasses of water. I would have had to order like 8 glasses lol. They were really cute though.
The venue is really cute and the wood tables and natural lighting are really nice for photos. Chelsey did really well with explaining everything and answering questions. Can't wait to return to try...
Read moreAugust 22 - I never stepped inside as it was a pretty morning and we took first available seating. We sat on the patio which is sort of crowded with tables but allowed for more parties to eat and, not overly crowded (just lots of tables in a small space). Once we were seated our waitress, Andi, greeted us almost immediately. Smiling and friendly she was very knowledgeable about the menu.
Our food came out faster than expected (busy sat morning) and was beautifully plated (see pics).
The Original (egg sandwich) was as expected. Tasty, with the sausage being juicy, not dry. The pork hash bowl was very good for the most part. The pulled pork was great. I didn't notice if they have a pulled pork sandwich/plate, but if so I would highly recommend it. The potatoes could have used a bit more time in the skillet, the onions & my scrambled egg were pretty perfect (not overly cooked, nor runny). I wasn't a fan of the "white sauce" which appeared to be a sort of ranch dressing to me, and I really didn't like the peppers (of the hot variety) just thrown in whole (still had the cap and seeds 😳), but those were minor things. The flavor of the pulled pork made up for it and if we go back, I will likely get the same thing, minus the white sauce.
All in all, a delicious meal, friendly service, and cost to be expected of a hip cafe at the beach.
Came back a second time and got the pulled pork hash without the sauce and some pickled mustard seeds on the side. 😋😋😋 Delicious, and spicy. 😋
3/12/23 - another delicious, filling, and friendly meal. Commune has community tables where you often share a table with other families. Today we sat with a family moving here from Ok.
This morning my boyfriend got the corn waffles and he said they were very filling. We both enjoyed our meals immensely. 😋😋😋 One of the women sharing the table with us ordered a beetroot latte. Very pretty. 🙂

Read moreThere is something on the menu for everyone here , all day at anytime. I’m guilty of visiting Commune in the early mornings and grabbing a burger for breakfast. If your not a burger person, the bowls are fun combinations of popular breakfast and brunch items. Take the brisket bowl, a delicious combo of ingredients you don’t expect to compliment each other, but does! Brisket, smoked peanut salsa , Carolina rice, butternut squash purée, cabbage and pickles that keeps your tastebuds on a rollercoaster of flavors!
The dishes above are some of my favorites, but Commune does have a great selection of breakfast dishes. The grits served here are some of my favorites, the sausage patties are formed and cooked in house, and the cornmeal waffles are to die for! I really would consider them as a last meal if given the choice. So I knew when I ordered the chicken and waffles, I was in for something special. Perfectly fried chicken with a sweet warm syrup over the already famous cornmeal waffles, and a sunny side up egg. The cornmeal for me adds a nice texture to the waffles and helps keep the sweetness in check. Add a side of grits to this, and it will make the perfect meal.
The staff is always friendly and always willing to give recommendations especially if its your first time visiting. Take my first time venturing into a realm of creative desserts that I never thought I would try. My favorite dessert popcorn ice-cream with parsley cakeis something that I would get every Sunday morning before starting my day! I know the combination shouldn’t work together, but it works so well its maddening! The ice-cream was sweet with a hint of butter and that corn taste you’d get from popcorn, and the parsley cake that adds freshness but truly tastes best when coated in a spoonful of ice cream. This is an example of the cool quirky combos you might find in...
