tl;dr Small distillery tasting room where you can get an inexpensive flight of liquors.

Was reading about craft distilleries being a unique anomaly within the antiquated Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control system and decided to seek one out. They are unique in that they can distill spirits, and then bottle and sell directly to the general public on premises. This being in contrast to all other spirits which must be sold at a Virginia ABC store.

In Chesapeake Bay Distillery's case, they have a small tasting room adjacent to their distilling and bottling warehouse. When I say small, there are probably a total of 10 seats or so. Their offerings include any of the products they distill by themselves, or as a tasting flight. As some of the other reviewers have noted, the $7 tasting flight, strictly in terms of price per ounce of alcohol, is a phenomenal value.

Being an alcohol purist, I personally did not find most of their offerings very appealing. My favorite two were probably the ghost pepper vodka and the herb whiskey. I wanted to try their regular whiskey but they were out. My least favorite was probably their tequila.

Why three stars when they are getting so many five star reviews? Maybe I am picky. They get a star for being unique for distilling spirits in contrast to the zillion craft brewery start-ups that have sprung up. Another for the woman who was working there that day. She was very friendly and helpful. And another star for the spirits themselves.

I admit that taste is highly subjective. But for my tastes, I think that they need to improve their products. Based on their current offerings I do not have any reason to go back. I appreciate their efforts to be creative with the spirits, but something more traditional that could stack up to a mainstream (and higher end) brand would be nice. I also think that they could improve their tasting room environment a little bit. Are they trying to have people just come through, try the flight and leave? Or are they trying to get people to hang out there for hours and order multiple things? I am leaning towards the former.

Overall, a fun place to swing by on a weekend. But if they are trying to attract repeat customers, I am not sure they...

I recently visited the Chesapeake Bay Distillery and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff, who were not only friendly but genuinely passionate about what they do. Their knowledge of the distilling process and enthusiasm for their craft made the visit all the more enjoyable.

The drinks? Absolutely incredible. Each vodka was smooth, flavorful, and expertly crafted. The bartenders were more than happy to recommend drinks based on my preferences, and each recommendation was spot on.

What really stood out was the atmosphere—it’s warm, inviting, and relaxed. It’s the kind of place where you can kick back with friends or strike up a conversation with the person next to you. The attention to detail in the décor creates a perfect blend of beachy charm and modern vibes.

If you’re looking for a place that delivers top-notch vodka, exceptional service, and a welcoming ambiance, Chesapeake Bay Distillery is it. I can’t wait to go back and bring more friends to...

I found myself at Chesapeake Bay Distillery 30 mins early for a business luncheon. While being the only person there; I sat at the bar after using their restroom. I was shortly greeted by Jordan and Christiana; both very down to Earth and sporting matching smiles. I expressed my reason for being there and was asked if it was my first time it was and we began chatting. While everyone began to show up; the bar was soon packed. It was a relaxed atmosphere, the drinks were truly tasty, and the service was on point. I left with a bottle of their vodka, a tee shirt, and a few new friends. I will be going back :)

I give them 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you for taking the time to...

A very nice distillery with very friendly people working the counter. This distillery specializes in Vodkya, Rum, and Tequila with a total of 11 different flavors. This place also has a flight for tastings and since there is a 3oz limit I was able to select 6 .5 oz 'tastes'. One thing that unique here is a Dr. Stoner 'herb' flavored Rum, Vodka, and Tequila. It's pretty amazing. Not to my taste but very interesting. My favorite was actually the Tequila with smoked ghost pepper. They do have a nice tasting room and a wide selection of very good cocktails. Keep in mind they do have the strict 3 oz limit.

This distillery is an absolute gem! Having been around for almost 20 years, it’s a beloved local spot with a welcoming and cozy atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. What really impressed me is how accessible everything is—from the distilling process done on-site to the creative offerings. We ordered some flights, and for just $8, we got four Halloween-inspired tasters, which were both fun and delicious. The creativity and quality in each taster stood out. Our bartender was fantastic—super attentive and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a unique, local experience!

We stopped in on a rainy day during our day date adventure. Very welcoming and relaxing vibe. We checked the menu and decided on bloody mary’s with the ghost pepper vodka. The old bay around the rim made the drink hit with the right level of smooth and spicy. For our second round we went with the stoners fresh herb vodka and autumn heat mixed cocktail. Both were well made and delicious. Service was ok only because a large group showed up. The staff were incredibly friendly so it all worked out fine. We walked away with a bottle of the ghost pepper vodka and cool swag.
