I arrived here with my sons at 6:38pm on a Sunday evening with my sons, while visiting the area. I found them on Yelp. The main reason why I chose them is because they had wings that were affordable and looked good. We were able to choose our seat from what was available. There are 4 TVs present, two at the bar and two on the other wall. They do have an area for kids to play. The atmosphere is very casual as the staff were wearing casual clothes. The establishment isn’t very large with about 13 tables and bar seating. there is adequate spacing between the tables. Our order was placed at 6:45pm. One of my boys got chicken tenders and fries while the other got a cheeseburger and fries. I got teriyaki bbq wings to start. At 6:55pm, I ordered my meal. I got the patty melt without the garlic mayo and sweet potatoes fries. The first set of food came at 6:59pm, which was the wings and the kid’s food. They enjoyed their food. The wings were crispy and delicious. I did notice that majority of the wings didn’t have sauce on one side of them. However, there was a pool of sauce at the bottom of the container when the wings were finished. I really enjoyed them. I received my patty melt and sweet potato fries at 7:20pm. The fries came out with a sweet sauce (vanilla, Carmel, bourbon, and honey). I feel the honey was overpowering the other flavors, which I didn’t like. The fries tasted fine by themselves. I have mixed feelings about the patty melt. It wasn’t nasty but wasn’t the best I ever had. I’d probably try a different burger, if I return. Our waiter was Kyle. I overheard him tell another table, but he didn’t tell us that when he sat us or began serving us. Overall, good experience. I would return. I observed great team work with the staff regarding seating guest and running out food. It stayed consistent with guest. As guest left, more came. It was never completely full, however. When we left, it was dark. They have a light on the side of the building which keeps the parking light lit, which is awesome!

Barrel 17 is a Vibe. My husband and I ended up in this space accidently. The atmosphere was loud but quiet, crowded but intimate, it smelled of delicous food. The hussle and bussle was heart warming. The gentleman that greeted us upon entry also bussed tables. He cleaned the tables with soapy water. He REALLY CLEANED the tables. I wanted to give him a hug, lol. He set the tone for the restaurant. Our waitress/server, Kylie, I apologize if I spelled your name wrong. Kylie was attentive, positive, pleasant and respectful. I must mention that myself and my husband are black. Yes it is 2024, and people are still unenlightened. With that said at No Point, did we feel like we did not belong, as it appeared we were the only black people in the restaurant. We are Not from VB. So we must be aware of our surroundings. We eventually learned the cooks were black. We started our experience with a beverage. Our choices were great!! Apps were huge, we had the pretzel, fried pimento cheese and fried pickles. Delicous! You could tell the grease was fresh. Our entrees were the fried flounder sandwich with tator tots and chicken asian zing wrap and fries. Every bite was amazing. The cooks deserve a raise. You can tell they like their jobs and take pride in the products they send out to the customers. We must give everyone that contributed to our experience a round of applause. Please do yourself a favor and visit this spot. Did I mention we were almost full just from the appetizers. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Barrel 17 quickly became my go-to spot for mouthwatering meals and a relaxed atmosphere, from our very first visit. If you’re looking for a place that delivers on flavor, look no further. Here’s a rundown of some standout items that are a must-try: **Sunrise Burger**: This burger is a revelation. The perfectly cooked beef patty is topped with a sunny-side-up egg, crispy bacon, and a tangy special sauce. Each bite is a delightful blend of savory and rich flavors. The yolk adds a creamy texture that elevates the entire burger experience. **Steak Bites**: These tender morsels of steak are seared to perfection, offering a melt-in-your-mouth sensation. They are seasoned just right, with a hint of garlic and herbs that enhance the natural flavors of the beef. Pairing them with the house dipping sauce makes for an irresistible appetizer or main dish. **Aloha Hot Dog**: A tropical twist on the classic hot dog, the Aloha Hot Dog is topped with grilled pineapple, teriyaki glaze, and a touch of spicy mayo. The sweetness of the pineapple and the umami of the teriyaki create a unique and delightful combination that sets this hot dog apart from the rest. Barrel 17 has truly mastered the art of comfort food with a gourmet twist. Every dish is thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, you’re in for a treat. Highly recommend giving these items a try – say hi to Kyle for his hospitality, you won’t be disappointed!

Restaurant Review: Barrel 17 – A Hidden Gem in Virginia Beach

If you’re looking for a dining experience that feels both indulgent and personal, Barrel 17 in Virginia Beach should be at the top of your list. This small, locally-owned gem delivers big on flavor, atmosphere, and hospitality.

From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with warmth and care, setting the tone for what turned out to be an exceptional evening. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a blend of familiar comfort food and creative twists that showcase the chef’s talent. Every dish we tried was crafted to perfection—bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and an attention to detail that truly stood out.

And while the food was absolutely incredible, the service was what elevated the experience to unforgettable. Erin, our server, was nothing short of phenomenal. Attentive without being overbearing, she had an innate ability to anticipate our needs and made every moment of the evening feel special. From her spot-on recommendations to her genuine enthusiasm for the menu, Erin made us feel like we were her only table of the night. It’s rare to find someone so committed to ensuring every guest leaves happy, and Erin went above and beyond.

What makes Barrel 17 even more special is its charm as a small business. In an age of chain restaurants, places like this remind you why it’s so important to support local. There’s a sense of community and pride here that you just don’t get anywhere else.

Whether you’re a Virginia Beach local or just passing through, Barrel 17 is a must-visit. With its amazing food, impeccable service (ask for Erin if you can!), and commitment to quality, this little spot is making big waves in the local dining scene.

Trust me—your taste buds and your heart...

Thanks for letting me share my experience and also first review I've ever written. I'm very greatful that Barrel 17 has offered me and my lady a superb experience even during a time of rush at Virginia Beach. It was our first visit there and also complimented right into the activities we had planned for the day. This place goes above and beyond and has food very hard to find in quality that is as top notch as it is. Brandon our server even dealing with other big tables in the rush made sure our first experience there would turn into many more. I've been in the business before and he is what you call a star role model on how to suggest and break down the menu to make an easy order. Being from Florida and not having a lot of favorite places in Virginia Beach, now I can have a place I can go to and know will never disappoint. Me and my lady both being in sobriety, Brandon was able to get her the drink she wanted even during the rush and without the alcohol. He adjusted and modified the situation with smart and fast thinking and never showed a hint of frustration. The food was great. The sunrise burger and the fried flounder sandwich is what we ordered with sweet potatoe fries that are one of a kind and the best I've ever had along with shrimp and meetballs and mozzarella sticks as a appetizer. The price is well worth it and is not to harsh on the pockets and gives room to tip a great server like Brandon. This place for us is hands down a five out of five. Thank you Barrel 17 for being a great addition to our day. Definitely...
