I know that some people here do not rate Guad's (Guadalajara) Mexican Restaurant 5/5 because of "bad service" or "terrible food" but let me tell you, the service, setting, and service was great. My dad's family is from Mexico and most Mexican restaurants don't send an authentic "Mexican vibe" because they just have hard-shelled tacos with cheese and tomatoes, etc. and no jalapeños, and plain old mariachi songs like "Cielito Lindo" and "El Mariachi Loco" and "Jarabe Tapatío (Mexican Hat Dance)". Guad's has street tacos that they actually sell in Mexico, with different types of sauces on the side, and even better--they have "Medio litro" (500ml) Coca-Cola from Mexico! But what really brought out the Mexican vibe was the music. Instead of "traditional" and "authentic" mariachi music (which is the only Mexican music that everyone in the whole world knows right?), they played what music is actually "hot" and in-style in Mexico right now-- Banda and norteño, which are classified as "Regional Mexican music". Banda is all brass instruments with a polka-style rhythm and norteño is typically an accordion, guitar, and sousaphone, with a polka-style rhythm, but still--some mariachi music is cool, too. To sum it up--the music there is awesome! Finally, the service, which is probably the most important aspect to a restaurant: one man was running the "waiting" and he was great. He did not mess up, and was very polite. The food came out in an easy 5-10 minutes after we ordered! The things you need to do are sit outside, whether at night or day, and order Mexican Coke. It actually feels like you're in the outskirts of the city of Guadalajara, from which the restaurant was named after. My family and I were in Virginia Beach for vacation, so if you're a local and haven't gone, or a tourist wanting good Mexican food, I highly recommend Guad's (Guadalajara) Mexican Restaurant to everybody. I give you a friendly pat on the back if you...
Read moreThis restaurant is nice for a quick lunch break or a quick meal after a stroll on the boardwalk. However, please be advised that they factor the tip into your bill. Tips are NOT optional at this establishment and you CANNOT customize an amount either. They WILL take 18% gratuity without your consent or knowledge, which can be a fat tip if your bill is already the better portion of $100. They did not inform me that gratuity is included when I entered the establishment. I believe that is misleading and borderline theft. There were only two people in my party, myself included, so 18% is a bit excessive. I understand that the state of the economy is in shambles and most restaurants have increased the minimum suggested tip from 10% to 15% but the key word is suggested. I had every intention of providing a tip, but I tip according to the quality of the food and the quality of the service, neither of which was worthy of 18% gratuity. I do not recommend coming to this restaurant at all. I, for one will not return. That is the first and last time I will spend my...
Read moreWell I'm so sorry for this negative review. My son and three grandkids and I ate here on Saturday 17th 2021. I ordered a steak fajita, my grandson ordered chicken tenders and French fries, my son ordered burrito Vallarta, and my little granddaughter ordered soft shell taco with meat and cheese, and my oldest granddaughter ordered soft shell taco. We shared a few bites from each other's order to taste it. The meal cost us $82. We ate and about an hour later my little granddaughter and son started getting crampy and we went home. All night my son both granddaughters and myself took turns running to the bathroom with diarrhea and cramps continued through Sunday. My grandson did not eat any beef he had the chicken and french fries so something was wrong with the ground beef or the cheese. I am just thankful that whatever was bad didn't cause any more damage. Food poisoning isn't anything to take lightly. I will contact the owners today to let them know I hope no one else...
