Chef Kevin Chang is a winner!! Zushi is divine. Everything that we had was delicious. Service was friendly and fast which is impressive on a busy Valentine's Day evening. My boyfriend started with the gyoza which arrived fried to perfection with a dipping sauce that was vinegar based and perfectly complimented them. I started with sushi. Fresh spanish Toro, California Uni, and two rolls the Zushi and the Pain in the neck. All delicious and did not need anyhing added. For entrees we got the NY strip teriyaki and chicken teriyaki which were grilled beautifully and accompanied by seasonal vegetables and rice which was sticky and soft . We finished with the creme brulee which was a simple yet wonderful end. The cracking sugar top with a vanilla custard that was just the exact proportions you want for each bite. I am thrilled to return to find the same shining diamond of a restaurant that was here the first time I ever first tried his masterful delicious meals. I will be back and I will always bring my appetite. The staff as always is amazing from Ray and Kevin to the waitstaff who are passionate and fantastic

Started out at another place, but quickly walked out after seeing about tables with dishes and the smell of incense. Zushi was close by with good reviews so decided to check it out. Upon walking in the decor and ambiance was delightful. It was the late lunch crowd and we only waited for them to accommodate a table that was comfortable for us. The menu is very different then your traditional sushi place with rolls that are unique as well as your typical tasty rolls. Our waitress, Jenny was polite, personable and offered the specials of the day right away. The gyoza was so delicious with a slight crispy, yet so light; I'd say the best I've had in VA Beach! The Blue Crab special definitely puts a fresh spin on a California roll, and the Pink Lady was scrumptious (a recommendation from our waitress)! I also want to note that the table next to us had an issue with their food not coming out quickly. The gentleman had a thick southern accent and there was a misunderstanding in his order (I heard the same thing the waitress did). The manager quickly stepped in and made sure the customer was satisfied.

Zushi continues to be one of the best sushi restaurants in HR. The team is excellent from entry, seating, service, food execution and the warm exit. While I waited for my table, I enjoyed the Pineapple Upside Down cocktail. For starters, the Gyoza - chicken and pork pan-fried dumplings of wheat flower, garlic and cabbage served with ponzu, also the Tempura Veggies!! Really enjoyed the Dancing Eel Roll 3 smoked eel, with avocado on top of California roll & eel sauce. 2) The Spicy Ocean Roll - Scottish salmon sashimi over spicy tuna and crab roll, topped with eel sauce and spicy mayo!! And lastly an awesome classic Volcano Roll with perfect salmon, crab, avocado, cream cheese and asparagus (which I took out 😋), tempura battered served with baby greens, spicy mayo and kochujan sauce!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

I only recommend the restaurant for the food! The chefs are amazing! The food is always on point!! But horrible experience Saturday night. The service was less then desirable. My girlfriend made reservations for 7:30 PM. We got there a little bit before 7:30, we still have a little bit of a wait, so we walk to the bar to get a drink, my girlfriend ask for water because she doesn’t drink alcohol and she was told by the bartender “we don’t do that here” “I will give you a cup.” There was a couple to the left of us that got up and left, shortly after we were at the front bar. We proceeded to sit down in their spot, and we were told, you can’t sit here because it’s not clean. So we said ok and waited for him to clean it, he walks away from the bar and comes back to clean it, we then proceed to sit down, and he said, we might be more comfortable sitting at a table across the room to wait for our reserved table to become available. At this point we felt extremely unwanted at this bar to wait for our table. My girlfriend replied, OK, so I guess you don’t want us here…. jokingly… to which the bartender, replied. “These two chairs are reserved for my regulars”. Horrible way to treat customers! We then proceeded to sit down at the table in the front and wait for our table to become available… where we sat waiting for 40 minutes PAST our time of reservation. We were then told by greeter, “well do you want to just eat at this table that you’re waiting at”? we nicely explain “no mam, we don’t, we would please like our table that we reserved for 7:30. She then said “ ok, well the sushi bar is open you can sit there”, to which we replied “if these two spots were available, why weren’t we told 40 minutes ago? The sushi bar had in fact been wide-open the entire time we were waiting. We then proceed to finally get sat after over 40 minutes waiting only to have a staff come over and tell us that the bartender said he offered us a place to sit and what we said never happen absolutely appalling. My girlfriend at that point was highly irritated and confused and politely ask the staff to just let us eat in peace. Our waitress seemed a little irritated, but out of all the people that we came in contact with she seemed to be the only one with respect. It’ll be a while before...

Green tea (2 stars) warm flavored tap water Miso (3) salty lukewarm but not wildly different from standard miso soup Unaju (3) okay Tuna & Salmon Sushi (3.5) good not great Service (2) Friendly enough with a side of CASTE bias (read Isabel Wilkerson)

We are visiting North Beach for our annual “spring break” weeklong vacation. Hubby and I patronized Zushi last night (Thurs) before our movie and were shocked that we were, by far, the best dressed with our casual sweaters and slacks. Friendly hostess sat us in the nook tucked into a corner right next to the only Black couple in the restaurant. It was strange simply because there were plenty of open tables that would not have us seated close to anyone else. My brow creased but I didn’t want to jump to conclusions.

When we ordered, our waiter came back to inform my husband that they did not have Stella Rose (a sweet dessert wine) though he ordered a bottle of Stella (Artois, the beer). He, our waiter, also mistook unaju for unagi. He was nice enough and apologized for his mistake.

As we ate our soups, a designer-clad Black couple (now the third) were being seated on the other side of the couple next to us to fill in the back of this nook. No other people had entered in the 10-15 minutes between our arrival and theirs. There was even more space since a couple of tables had cleared, leaving only 4 parties including us, a White table of 3 and 2 White women a few tables away from where the new Black couple were placed.

Thankfully, the latest couple asked to sit elsewhere and were moved to the bar area. We finished our meal, which was only $57 ($71) including tip. I was pleasantly surprised that this was less than half of what we usually spend at home for a similar meal.

I don’t want to tank this restaurant because their sushi was on par with some of our local faves in the DMV. Their staff, as a whole, was quite friendly too. I simply want them to be aware that the way they service their Black patrons may be tinged with...

This whole experience was hilarious. First off the waiter at the front was not very friendly and went on to make sure we knew he had been there for 17 years and that we would have a time limit when we eat. (We weren’t allowed to be seated until our entire party got there of 4 people, 3 of us were there already) I also want to mention, there were several open tables and we had reservations.

He proceeded to haggle asking for a free membership to a gym with some random folks who walked in (who moved in upstairs) I know this doesn’t really involve the restaurant but if they are trying to give off this upscale vibe the staff should match the vibe and they dont. I have eaten at some of the most upscale restaurants around the world so it was really funny to me how trashy the staff were.

The food itself was good for what you actually received because the other issue was we placed orders and only got half of what we ordered. The crazy thing is the waitress came over and asked us multiple times if this is what we ordered or if we wanted this and that and we just wouldn’t receive it at all. LOL then of course when the check came we let her know we were missing some things and she packed to go boxes for us to come home and still have some of the stuff we paid for missing. I could care less honestly but thought I should share, it’s not the upscale “sushi” it portrays to be. You are definitely getting the same...
