This place is RIDICULOUS. They have the dirtiest rooms, worst staff, and crappiest service in all of Virginia beach. I would give them an award for being awful if I could.
The GM here, at 4548 Bonney Road, Extended Stay America— her name is Michelle— said after 90 days of being here, which would have been the 3rd of April, we would go “tax exempt” and get all the taxes back and be able to pay for almost 2 weeks here with the credit. “That’s Amazing, what a blessing!” I said, as I added that to my budget and plan for the first half of april.
Well, yesterday, i went to do just that, and now, the general manager Michelle, is just making excuses, and she’s stuttering over her words and going back on what she said. She’s trying to tell me that now I gotta come up with almost 300$ in order to stay here, otherwise I’m gonna end up homeless with an almost 6 month old. She REALLY HAD THE GALL to say to me “well, I know I SAID that, but you still should have been prepared to pay.”
Excuse you? I WAS prepared to pay. We are on a limited income, and I added this to my budget on YOUR word, and now you’re trying to screw us over, charge us money we don’t owe, and kick us out on the street with a baby!!!
Now I have to figure out how to come up with 300$, considering we can’t even buy food right now— and I’m going to be contacting Wavy News 10 and my lawyer, due to the fact that our room has black mold, the housekeeping doesn’t do their job, the manager and front desk workers all lie and are awful at their jobs, and all the people who work the front desk would rather sit in the back and sleep, argue, be difficult, and play on their phones— rather than do their jobs, and help the poor homeless people like us who live here. I don’t know what else TO do.
Especially because I’ve contacted corporate multiple times, who told me they would be contacting the district manager, who would be contacting me to resolve my issue. Instead of that happening, the issue was just sent to the GM, Michelle, who promptly “cleared” it, and then told me I owe almost 300$. Never heard from the district manager or the owner or property manager like the corporate folks said I would. Just got blown off again.
So, I guess it’s lawsuit and news exposé time, since this is how they treat human beings here, and we’ve been having these issues since we moved in. I’ll add pictures, too. AND I’m not the only person who has had these problems!! 7 other tenants here have all experienced the same issues, and this is just a small small part of the massive list of issues. Not to mention that in all of the Google reviews I attached, whoever was saying “we take this very seriously and will resolve the issue” is also lying, because nothing has changed, and in fact, it’s even gotten worse.
My complaints have been documented and repeatedly ignored while the staff screws off and makes excuses and generally sucks at their jobs.
I hope they’re happy, torturing homeless people on a daily...

We are transient and have been staying at the Extended Stay America in Bonney Rd. in Virginia Beach since January 3rd. We have paid for our room on time and extended our stay each time for a week or two at a time. Every time we pay, the price increases exponentially. When we started staying there, we were paying $407, now we are paying $610. That is over a $200 increase in two months. We are now paying more per month to stay in a very small space that we would be paying for an apartment or even a house at fair market value. We are unable to move out of the hotel because it is becoming impossible to save any money to do so.
In addition to the ridiculous rate increase at a very run down, non-scenic, inland hotel full of nothing but other homeless people and over the road truckers, we have also dealt with the following. No one has EVER come to our room to clean, refresh, restock, ask us if we need anything, swap out our linens, etc. We have to take our towels and linens downstairs to the office to exchange them and half of the time they do not have any clean to give us in return. We’ve been told to “come back in 30 minutes, they just went in the dryer.” only to return two more times within an hour and a half and be told the same thing. We’ve been given attitude for our simple requests, and even told that our rate was $1048 PER WEEK ten minutes after being told it as $610. Because of this, we had to book our extension online to get the $610 rate we were initially given. We have not received any toilet paper, tissues, soaps, etc. since the first week we stayed there. The faucet in the tub/shower in our room drips rapidly, loudly and nonstop, all day and night. This has caused corrosion and deterioration of the drain below. The table in our room has a leg of it completely broken away from the bottom of the table and is barely standing up and has been like that since we entered the room. The vent in the bathroom is coated in mildew, dust, and possible mold and serves no purpose because it is inoperable. The windows in the room have mold all over them and we are breathing this in.
The condition of our room is unacceptable and I’m sure every other room there resembles ours in one way or another, or worse. This survey now serves as proof that your company has been made aware of the issues and our discontent with our experience there, as a whole. If this notice goes without response, we will be notifying the Virginia Beach Housing Authority, the Virginia Beach Code Enforcement, and local television stations.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your prompt...

I stayed here one night, the night of November 7, 2024. I paid for the room, and then on a separate charge I paid for the $100 deposit. I was told as long as there was nothing wrong with my room, I would be getting the deposit back within 14 business days. I checked out of the hotel on the morning of November 8th, and I was told by the woman working the front desk that she had started the refund process for the deposit, and I was good to leave. About a week later, I called the location to see if they had already refunded my deposit, as I had not seen it in my bank account, and I was told it would take up to 14 business days to go through and they had already done everything. Fast forward, and it is now almost a month later, and I have not seen a single cent back in my account. I have been checking my bank statements religiously, but the only things I see from this company are my room charge and the deposit charge. I contacted them through their website, and all they sent me was a copy of the room charges. Notice how I stated previously that I was given two separate charges, one for the room and one for the deposit. Obviously, the deposit would not show up on the room charge documentation. Where is my money, Extended Stay America? The ONLY reason I am giving this two stars instead of one is because of Christy, the woman working the front desk when I checked in. She provided excellent service and I only wish the rest of this company was the same. Don’t even get me started on the state of these rooms. The room I was assigned had no working bathroom. I informed Christy at the front desk, who appeared to have already known something about the state of the bathroom once I told her, and she kindly had me moved to a different room. However, once I got to the second room, it was dank and had bugs all over. I requested to be put in my original room, to which Christy obliged. I wouldn’t have minded so much if I had gotten my $100 back.
In short, if you want to pay the full price of a run-down room plus $100, go ahead and stay here. If you’re like me and expect to get a deposit back when you’re told you will get it back, DON’T come here. Save your money,...
