I was immediately hooked when I found out that this place does their dairy pasteurization on-site. As a self-proclaimed milk nerd who used to put down a gallon of 2% a day in college and all-around lover of dairy, I had to check it out.
I've also had my share of amazing ice cream, from places like Bi-Rite and Smitten, so I think my opinion is fairly relevant in the world of frozen dairy treats.
This place might be better than Bi-Rite. Rating it on the same spectrum as Smitten is, in my opinion, unfair. Until you throw liquid nitrogen into the mix, you just aren't operating with the same rules. But the flavors and consistency of Lottie's edges out Bi-Rite ever-so-slightly in my mind.
Highlights include the spicy chocolate and their waffle cones. Delicious. They also serve Blue Bottle Coffee here, which is great, and they do a mean root beer float with fancy root beer. The manager is usually there and is happy to chat about the ethical implications of mandated government pasteurization, or at least she was with me. Like I said, I'm...
Read moreWhile I was in Walnut Creek, I found a great little ice cream shop called Lottie's. I was surprised to find that they handcraft Artisan ice cream on the other side of their backwall of their storefront. I also found that their building was the original Post Office for Walnut Creek.
I had a delicious Hot Fudge Sundae made with a large scoop chocolate ice cream, and one of Vanilla Salted Almond Toffee. It was topped with hot fudge sauce, praline peanuts, and whipped cream that they whip there. It tasted so much better than the factory made ice cream found in markets. I noticed how the ice cream was stretchy while I was spooning out of my bowl. I throughly enjoyed every bite!!!
They also make ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream floats.
Lottie's ice cream is really fresh--seeing how it is made in the back room. I saw them working through the back window, and took a picture.
Tip: there is no place to eat ice cream in their shop, however, there are several benches across the street--that is...
Read moreI love this place. My partner and I love to scout for local icecream places whenever we are visiting a place, and we did the same in Walnut Creek, and Lottie’s didn’t disappoint us. It’s a local handcrafted artisan icecream shop in the heart of Walnut Creek.
We got the single scoop hot fudge sundae(Vanilla Salted Almond Toffee icecream), Ginger Pear Sorbet, and the Kumquat flavoured icecream, and all of them hit the spot. They’ve an assortment of different toppings ranging from almonds to sprinkles that you can add to your icecream.
The place got really busy by the time we were done, that shows how popular(and good) this place is. There isn’t much space inside to sit and eat, but there are benches across the street where you can eat. On a cold day, it might be a good idea to do take out and eat it in your car or home. The staff is polite and helpful, and we chatted with them for a bit.
Overall an awesome local icecream shop in Walnut Creek that I’d love to visit...
