Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken — Restaurant in Washington

If I could give 10 stars I would. The employee here made my trip so much better, I will never forget it. This happened in October. I didn't catch his name a younger gentleman I believe Hispanic but may be wrong. I purchased a honey fried chicken sandwich and 2 donuts for me and my girl. The sandwich after 1 bite was so good I needed another one even though I wasn't hungry it was for my girl. After paying for the 2nd one I sit down to eat outside and open it to take a bite and something splashes on me and over all our food. I look up and 2 stories up is a window cleaner or something. He dropped his chemicals all over our food and when I said hey and pointed at my food he started laughing. I don't know if he speaks English my girl starts yelling at him in Spanish and he slowly lowers to the ground I calm her down and tell her it's fine to not worry about it. I went in to purchase another one because the contractor outside not affiliated with astro doughnuts dropped chemicals on our food and the employee said to not worry about paying and he got me. I was so surprised and that act of kindness did not go unnoticed my brother. Got 1 savory & 1 old bay everything donut chicken sandwich, chicken tender meal, 2 piece chicken meal, mango passion fruit, mable bacon, and velvet donuts. All of the food was good. Not exceptional, but good. Seasoned chicken pretty good, and donuts were flavorful as well. Super Overpriced for the teeny sandwiches and amount of food imo. No one was excited about their meals, nor expressed any real want to return. My party who ordered those were basically done with their meals before I finished going to wash my hands. Chicken came out in a bag with nothing (no box, no cover, etc). They don't do their chicken on their donuts - only those listed above! Boo.. Total more than $60 for our "snack" / we went out to eat an hour later. $3.50 each for a donut & almost $10 portion of a meal (no sides), (size of popeyes buscuit) it should be much better than the .70 from krispie kreme and 9.99 8 piece from popeyes. I'll stick with KK & popeyes. Maybe crown chicken or royal farms, even KFC 🍗 is what theirs is most similar to. Even without the price difference considered, Id enjoy KK donuts just as the much if not more than ones i had here though great flavor profile. Their donuts are in middle of cakiness between duck donuts and KK imo so thats a plus. Oh the lemonade made from a half a bottle of poor quality concentrate is terrible. This has been our favorite meal in D.C. so far. Wow! Five of us ordered five different chicken sandwiches and we loved them all. Our daughter, who doesn't normally like breaded anything, said the breading to chicken ratio was perfect. I loved the cheddar biscuit. It was delicious. After ordering the sandwiches, we also ordered donuts. We enjoyed the creme brulee donuts. The jelly-filled was very yummy. The eleven year old ordered the lemon and didn't like it. He said the filling tasted funny so I tried it. It was fantastic! This wasn't artificial lemon pudding. It was the real-deal lemon curd at its finest. If we returned, the lemon pie donut is definitely the one I would order.

The service was also too notch. We walked through the door a little after two because we had been on a white house tour. When I told the kids we were ordering sandwiches and not just donuts, the gentleman behind the counter started preparing for five sandwiches. He was ready to go and started making our meals before we had even finished ordering and paying. That helped speed things up, which was so helpful since I may have been getting close to hangry.

We chose to sit in the back room of the "bar" where they had football playing. The whole experience was exactly what we needed after a long morning of touring the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court Building, and The White House.
