Cute little café and bagel shop located in the heart of Georgetown. I stumbled upon this shop while walking to the Waterfront and was drawn in by the lovely, minimalistic storefront flooded by natural light from their giant window, as well as the charming little outdoor seating area in the back. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the service is pretty efficient; there's usually a bit of a line, so it might take a bit to get through the line, but the food comes out quickly once you place your order. I decided to get their Capitol Omelette sandwich, a classic breakfast sandwich with eggs, onions, mushrooms, mayo, and American cheese. The sandwich was solid, especially when eaten while hot, and the combination of the gooey melted cheese and mayo made it incredibly rich. It was, sadly, a smidge too rich for my taste -- it felt a bit greasy with all the mayo and cheese, as well as a bit too salty, so I ended up feeling a bit ill after eating it (but, again, that's really just a matter of my taste).
The bagel itself was solid; it was quite chewy and a nice outer shell, but it was a bit more dense / heavy than I would...
Read moreHad a blueberry bagel with vegan cream cheese and jam. I understand a person's choice in bagel is very personal, if not the most personal and significant choice they'll ever make. This bagel did not make my cut. The bagel was definitely a step above the blueberry Thomas bagels you can get at the store - bigger, fluffier, more blueberries, more purple - but nothing about it stood out in comparison to Bagels Etc. or Bethesda Bagels.
I am so grateful that Cafe con Bagel considered the vegan community, and what follows is merely constructive criticism: The real grade-driver was the egregiously large amount of cream cheese that was put on the bagel. The cream cheese was reminiscent of Violife, taste so-so and dense af. There was like half a container of Violife (~3.5oz) in the bagel. Never thought I would be put in a position that made me want less cream cheese on a bagel but life is a box of chocolates I guess. My fellow vegan and confidant also believed there to be way too much cream cheese in...
Read moreI had the steak con queso bagel sandwich this morning and it was glorious! Considering they use Bethesda Bagels, it was a treat considering Bethesda Bagels pulled out of their Dupont location.
I would've loved to have added a fried egg onto this bagel but they sadly do the egg puck strategy which just doesn't hit the same for me.
Still a 5 star sandwich though - a little greasy but felt like a grown of version of the steak egg and cheese bagel from McD's which has gotten me through some dark times in my life. Couldn't take a pic b/c of said grease but believe me - it was delish!
Can't wait to go back and try more food (empanadas!) and their iced mocha game to see how it compares!
I do wish they set up their own takeout site so that I don't get pushed to...
