Update: The owner initially responded to my review but later deleted their reply. I can only assume they realized their mistake. I want to clarify that my review is both honest and respectful—I meant no harm or disrespect toward the business. I completely understand how challenging it is to run a business, especially during difficult times.
That said, the response I received,
“We had a death in our family and brought in help yesterday. Sorry about your "tragic" experience.”
This felt unnecessarily harsh and dismissive. I’m truly sorry for your loss, and I offer my condolences. But responding to community feedback in that way doesn’t reflect the character we all hope to see in our local businesses.
I still believe in supporting small, local restaurants, and I hope this experience leads to growth and reflection.
Initial Review: I've lived in the area for the past 8 years and have always made an effort to support locally owned restaurants like Alfano’s. I was genuinely excited when I first discovered this spot and have ordered from them around 15 times over the years, hoping to find that perfect local pizza place.
What I appreciate most is that Alfano’s represents small business ownership, something our community needs more of. That’s what kept me coming back, even after some hit-or-miss experiences. I wanted to support them. I truly did.
However, I’ve consistently found the pizza to be very inconsistent—each order varying greatly in both taste and texture. The dough has always been very bland, but I was willing to overlook that for the sake of supporting a local business. Unfortunately, my most recent order was the final straw. As shown in the photo, the pizza was severely burnt, both the crust and the toppings. The pizza tastes like you're eating firewood. It was disappointing and frustrating.
Alfano’s, I say this with sincerity: I want you to succeed. But quality and consistency are essential in the restaurant business. I hope you’re able to find more consistency in your product so that customers like me can return with confidence.
Where's the quality check before serving it up...
Read moreI'm sorry to have to say this but my wife and I were seriously disappointed in our food purchase. Just completely dissatisfied!
This was our 1st ever visit, which is strange because Alfano's has been at this location for I believe 2 years now and we have driven by it literally 100's of times (we are local residents). I pushed this place onto my wife and showed her many pictures of the food items from other reviewers uploads as well as read their review post.
We walked in and was politely greeted instantly. We looked over the menu briefly and then decided on the Italian Sausage combo (it.sausage/mushroom/onion). They told us it would be 15-20 minutes wait time. No problem, they had the game on to occupy our time. We watched them pull pizzas out of the oven during our wait. The Chicago pan-style looked impressive, but of course we didn't order that one. We also ordered toasted ravioli appetizers. That was a big mistake as the toasted rav's are not freshly deep fried. They are pre-cooked and then when ordered they are placed into an aluminum to-go pan and inserted into the pizza oven to re-heat them. NEVER AGAIN.. Anyways, 15-20 later we had our food and drove home to dine.
Alfano's crust is a bit thicker than STL thin crust style so that alone is a personal preference. But this did not deter my review. We just both felt that the toppings were just way too frugal. I mean if your a pizza place and you are charging $15 - $20 bucks for a pizza, then by God put some toppings on it. What are you saving them for? Why be so cheap? The overall taste was bland at best. No seasoning.
I don't know, perhaps this was an off day. But for me, 1st impressions are everything. Fail me once and your done and...
Read moreWe used to love Alfano’s and I’m all about supporting small businesses, but the last few times have been disappointing. Last night took the cake. Called around 1:30pm and asked what time they were taking orders until (given it was Christmas Eve) and what time would be best for a take out order of 4 pizzas and a couple of apps. They asked me to place an order ahead online for 7pm or after. After I hung up I placed my order online for 7:20pm pick up (I changed it before checking out from 7:05pm to 7:20pm). Then I get a call at 4:35pm asking if we were coming to get our order. We told them it was supposed to be for 7:20pm pick up, but they said it was ready and we needed to come get it. Okay, it could have been an error with Spot On their ordering app, but we’ll get it and put it in the oven. Apparently the food was sitting out on the counter the whole time (about 2 hours) and instead of giving our money back or remaking the order they gave us 2 slices of cake. The most appalling part is they were totally fine with sending chicken wings and pizzas with a customer to consume after they sat at room temp for at least 2 hours. Anyone in the food business knows that can make people sick. Only one person was brave enough to eat some of the food and he’s spending Christmas with food poisoning. So no dinner for Christmas Eve and $100 worth of food down the drain....
