I recently walked into Joe's Pizza on Sunset Blvd at 445pm on a Tuesday. On the counter were 4 slices of cheese pizza and 3 empty circle pans. Half a Sicilian pizza. That's all there was to choose from. I asked if anything new was coming out and was told no. I paid $13+ for 2 slices of razor thin, dull crust pizza. I included a picture in this review. 2 weeks later, I was back in my home town of Sleepy Hollow NY. I went to my small suburban town's pizza place. Main Street Pizza. I took a photo and attached it here. Do you see the effort? The selection of gorgeous food that they make and you can walk right in and take your pick? My theory is that Joe has spread himself a little thin with too many locations in LA. His crew is probably scared to fill the counter with inventory and therefore makes one or two offerings every hour. If you order a pepperoni slice at Joe's, they take the old cheese slice from the counter and add pepperoni to it. Garbage. No one, in NY, does that. You don't have to trust the opinion of my review. Just take a look at the photos and if you need to, walk into Joe's Pizza on sunset boulevard. It's overpriced and there is zero selection. It is the epitome of LA 2024 lame. Just note that elsewhere in the country, they are still making pizzas correctly, still offering them correctly, and still owning a business with some pride. F-

On Wednesday night, I had an hour drive back to Huntington Beach and wanted a quick bite of something. It was 9:30, or so. I saw Joe's and pizza sounded good. I parked and walked in. They served by the slice which was perfect, but, it's New York style... I was a little disappointed because I've never really been a fan of the NY style, but I was hungry. I grabbed a couple of slices and a soda. I ate in the car and from the first bite I was hooked!! The crust had a nice crunch to it with a good chew and the flavor was great. The tomato, basil, and mozzarella was the first time I've ever had pizza without meat, but it was AMAZING!! I don't know how it compares to being in NYC, but I will eat at Joe's again when I'm in town! Thanks guys for the great experience, fast service, and the great pie!! šŸ˜‹ On a side note, the couple in line behind me were from NYC and they raved over how good it was at this location!

I got a vegan pizza last week and a vegan pizza yesterday. The pizza I got yesterday tasted entirely different than last week… and I am 99.9% sure it was regular cheese and not vegan cheese. It tasted distinctly different from the first bite. Even my meat eater boyfriend thought it tasted too good to be vegan. The pizza I got yesterday also looks exactly like the regular cheese pizza. The pizza on the right, top corner was the pizza I received yesterday. All the photos are of Joe’s pizza and it clearly looks more like the regular cheese than the vegan cheese. Pick-up was for 6:15pm and it was not ready until 6:30pm. I tried to eat a few bites but got a stomach ache and had no appetite even today / the day after. We live right off of Sunset and have ordered from jere a few times, so we feel pretty upset about a spot we liked being inconsistent.

Food: 2*

Calzones: 1*, Not worth it. They look great but that's where it starts and ends. You'll get a calzone with an inner-lining of raw dough and cheese that isn't melted. I've tested this across 5 orders over the span of a year -- their calzones are always like this. The outside of the shell looks great, but the inside isn't cooked right which tells me they're baking these things on too high of heat for too little time.

Pizza: 3*, Better than the average national chain. Undercarriage char is decent, the slice is nicely foldable, but the flop is HEAVY. The slice will bend 80% towards the crust. If you like any rigidity to your slice at all, this isn't for you. I get that NY style slices are meant to be pliable but these pizzas are something else.

There's some, but not enough, crunch in the crust and zero in the rest of the slice. The dough is often not cooked all the way through, so your pie will have a very thin layer of gooey, slimy dough just beneath the toppings. It's too much.

Also, don't add onions -- you'll get raw onions added on that arrive purple and slimy. It's like they bake the pie then sprinkle on the onions.

My advice here is if you're going to order a pie, avoid toppings that add moisture to the dough to minimize to goop factor. So, avoid mushrooms, avoid veggies. The meats are actually pretty good.

Service: 2* -- this only applies to delivery. Every single time I've ordered delivery, there has been a problem. Either the food arrived 30 minutes late and cold, or I was told they don't actually deliver through Slice even though I ordered and paid through slice so I had to pick up the order myself... There hasn't been a single time where delivery lacked issues. I'm sorry to say it, given how a pizza shop thrives on order-outs, but DO NOT order out from here if you want your pizza to be in decent shape when it arrives. For the record, I live less than ONE mile away and my pizzas frequently arrive cold. In fact, my most recent order I called in to check on it because it was so late and I was told that it had been picked up 5 minutes before I called... and it arrived 29 minutes later -- to a place that's under one mile away. That should tell you everything you need to know about their commitment and concern for a quality delivery.

Bottom line: There are better options for pizza in the area. This one's decent if you go with a straight meat pizza, but the price is a ball buster. Unfortunately, you won't get much better pricing even from Dominoes, as I recently queued up a large pan-style 4-topping and got slapped with a $31 subtotal....

It’s hard to write an honest review of this caliber and really only have good things to say. It rarely happens unless you’re starving. The way in which I realized I had found a delicious slice (or two) went like this.

I had decided to meet friends for a show at the Comedy Store but being the diligent individual I am, I arrived early. What I had not planned on, was dinner. Like I said I wasn’t super hungry because I had eaten lunch, but I was starting to get hungry and I was not planning to wait until the end of the night. And I’ll tell you one thing- when I decide to eat out somewhere, I don’t mess around, meaning if I’m going to spend my money somewhere it better be good. Cause of it’s not, I will still put my time into writing a review to share of whomever I can on how disappointed I was, in hopes you don’t experience the same. I ended up getting a slice and couldn’t help but get another. I could have gone with just a slice if my tastebuds hadn’t been on Team Joe’s Pizza. They had already been won over.

Here I was, ordering at Joe’s Pizza. A couple of friends had told me that it was good, inexpensive, but good. That’s hard to find in Hollywood. So I checked it out and I have to say, for a moment I literally forgot where I was. I ordered a fresh slice that had just come out of the oven. Pepperoni fresh pineapple, crunchy but baked jalapeƱos. And the sauce. The sauce was rich and flavorful, and the ingredients tasted like they had love and freshness cooked into them. It might have been God’s hand guiding the cooks or it might just be that the restaurant knows what they are doing. The dough is soft and crispy at the same time- it’s perfect, as if you’re biting into the arm of a baby angel. It’s not an understatement to say this recipe, whatever they are doing, is powerful.

Not only are the ingredients of obvious and good quality, but the customer service was friendly, Javier made sure I enjoyed everything and thanked me for dining in. If that guy doesn’t already own the place he needs to be given 1-2 promotions.

I will be back here as often as possible and it’s kind of crazy to say this because I am quite the foodie but I think I have found my new favorite pizza place...
