I love the outdoor/indoor space of this restaurant and so beautiful and quiet it’s hard to believe it’s right off the Sunset Strip. The food is delicious, however, there are some aspects of lunch that did not quite warrant 5 stars. The first mistake was the hostess not being prepared for a table of two reservation on a Tuesday with plenty of seating, and when we were seated she did not give us a menu. We had to ask. We started with the smoke and fire cocktails. Cocktails are a perfect test because they are all about the balance, and in this case, it was way off. The mezcal was way too much and automatically meant the smoke overpowered everything. The pineapple and mango were nonexistent although I tried to taste them. The fire from the jalapeño didn’t kick in until it had plenty of swirls, but got there. The food was more successful. The good was perfect medium rare steak, the King fish crudo, although I wanted more Persian cucumber crunch, and the Caesar salads thinly sliced crispy bread instead of clunky croutons. It needed more shredded Parmesan in the dressing, and more anchovy’s, but was still delicious and I enjoyed the long slices of parm. The other miss were the fries that were slightly overcooked. Perfect fries need to be golden and these were a bit overdone. I still ate them all. And while I looked forward to poached pears for dessert, it was not on the menu and the other options were not interesting enough for all the sugar. The final issue was the waiter who got the drink order wrong and handed us the check before we looked at the dessert menu, but he was otherwise attentive. A few tweaks and this could be a five...
Read moreI was truly honored to be invited to celebrate my friend Jim’s 79th birthday at Cavatina. It was a beautiful Saturday to have brunch outdoor. We were a group of 15, seated at their private outdoor long table (adjacent to the open outdoor bar). It was a peaceful and elegant space surrounded by greenery that made the entire experience feel special from the moment we arrived.
We started with Seasonal Fruit & Berries and Assorted French Pastries (no photos, but they were absolutely delicious). For my main course, I had the Sunset Wagyu Burger, layered with smoky dressing, bacon, aged cheddar, and crisp lettuce. Delicious 🤤. Towards the end, we toasted to the birthday boy with glasses of champagne, and after we enjoyed a mezcal margarita. It was refreshing with just the right touch of smoke.
The staff at Cavatina went above and beyond to make Jim’s day feel memorable, and I truly appreciated the great and attentive service from our server Gustavo.
The food, drinks, atmosphere, and company made it a celebration I’ll always remember. My wife and I love going to Cavatina. It is a hidden gem in West Hollywood and perfect for birthdays, brunches, and...

The decor of this restaurant is quite simple: blue table cloths, fresh orchid flowers near hostess desk, an etched glass case of various libations. But the best decor here is the black and white photographs of the legends who have dined or stayed here: Robert Downey Jr, Nicole Kidman, Brad Pitt (and more). My favorite photo was a black and white of Mick Jagger on the beach from 1969 that faced the small cocktail area.
As I arrived around mid afternoon, it was lunch. The lunch menu is very simple: salads, a variety of sandwiches and several pasta and meat main dishes. All very healthy choices, served well with my choice of the day: Prosseco.
It was very relaxing and perfect quiet afternoon. The service is excellent, and the food filling. I quite enjoyed this little afternoon getaway, and I look forward to dining here again on...
