“Something About” the customer experience severely lacking….. My friends and I are always eager to check out new eateries in our neighborhood, especially those highly publicized, women-owned and operated. After months of anticipation, we were excited to visit SAH, but unfortunately, our experience fell short. We expected a long wait, and after about 45 minutes in the direct sun, a staff member took the number in our party and asked if we were dining in or taking out. About 30 minutes we were finally seated after waiting over an hour. Despite the wait, we found the sandwich shoo to be very quiet with all eight tables occupied. We thought the staff would be bustling to keep things moving, but there seemed to be a lack of consideration and urgency. Given no direction by the staff we realized we needed to place our orders at the counter before returning to our table. Our total came to $120 for three sandwiches, three seltzers, and two bags of chips. While our food arrived quickly, my request to have the chicken salad sando toasted in their panini press was overlooked. When I brought this up, a staff member was quick to react only to return with another wait staff member to inform me they'd have to discard my sandwich due to health regulations and start over. Not wanting to waste food, I asked for toasted bread and spread which was delivered to our table quickly. When I realized I had no knife for the spread, I was met with a rather sassy response of, “Anything else, sir?” My friend asked for ice for the mildly chilled $10+ seltzers, only to be told they didn’t have any. NO ICE! in LA is a huge oversight. As for the sandwiches, they were average at best. The interior was cute, though I deducted points for having the classic window "OPEN" sign showing “CLOSED” . The service, while friendly, the staff was inexperienced and lacked leadership, with a splash of attitude. Overall, the sandwiches were decent but overpriced, and the absence of ice was very disappointing. Given the owners’ background in the food service industry connected to a well-known celebrity restaurateur, and years of planning I had higher expectations. The owners don’t seem to be hands-on with no consideration to guests waiting over an hour only to be met by a quiet well appointed sandwich shop serving...
Read moreI would highly highly suggest SAH gets a foldable sidewalk sign that shows that no one after that point will be guaranteed service, and ensure that everyone in front of the sign is guaranteed at least take-away service, even if it's not exactly at the 4 PM closing time. Especially with the weather getting so hot and this business having no shade outside, it's really unacceptable to allow people to wait outside for an hour + and tell them at exactly closing time that they’re not getting anything. At the very least, provide a water station for people waiting.
We arrived at the restaurant at 2:50 PM and waited outside in line for 40 minutes. At 3:30 PM, someone finally came out and informed a few parties behind us that anyone behind them would not be guaranteed service due to the 4 PM closing time. Because those people were behind us, we continued to wait, assuming that those of us ahead in line (about 15 ish people) would at least be able to place to-go orders within the remaining 30 minutes.
Unfortunately, at 3:58 PM, we were told that only the first 5-6 people in line—about two parties ahead of us—would be served. This is a horrible business practice, as it allowed us to wait for over an hour without receiving any service.
It’s their first month so I know there’s a lot of kinks to work out during this time period, and implementing a foldable sidewalk sign and ensuring basic amenities like a water station would go a long way in making the overall experience better. I’ll try again in a few months when the hype...
Read moreI loved loved loved it! Highly recommend!! I know that the owners were on TV for something and one of my best friends who’s a big fan of their show, and I who knows Ariana Maddix from love island wanted to go here while we were in California, and I’m really glad we did!! I thought it was really really really good, everything tasted fresh, good bread, good meat, good veggies. Many options for any food preferences, a great place for someone with allergies as well, as there’s so many different variations and there very accommodating to your food preferences when it comes to making a sandwich, and not a dig to California because I very much enjoyed it but a lot of it places are very snobby about food preferences so it was nice to have very polite and kind workers here, that understood sometimes you don’t want tomatoes on your sandwich lol. I think this is a really good little place to try if you’re in the mood...
