I find seafood restaurants to be hit and miss sometimes, but O'Crab is more of a hit to me. They are a restaurant that specializes in seafood boils and cajun styled food. While I have not had the boils as of yet, I have had some of their other dishes. The atmosphere I think is where I think the restaurant is the best. It is very much themed off a dockhouse and the decor and feel very much match that type of setting. The lighting is just about right and for the most part and have a bar in the middle of the restaurant that usually shows sporting events. Not much to complain about but I think the atmosphere hits the mark. I would like to give the food a little higher ranking but there's a couple areas that could use some improvement. For today's meal I had the catfish basket and subbed out the fries for a salad and added a side of fries (which is a little cheaper than just adding the salad). The salad was very generous for a side salad and for the most part was very fresh. For the main course, the breading for the catfish was nice and crisp and the meat wasn't dry so I could every easily eat it. Though one of my critiques is that I wish the catfish was a little better seasoned as I found the flavor of the breading a little dull - perhaps leaning a little more on the Cajun seasoning or a lemon pepper seasoning would help it out. I guess a part of that comes from growing up eating a lot of fried catfish and bluegill but the catfish could use a bit more to make it out of the park. The fries are nice and thick and definitely sturdy enough if you wanted to do the crabmeat fries. The basket I got was fairly fresh decently seasoned. The good news is that you can ask for ketchup - fry sauce can be an acquired taste and I've personally found that my preference for fry sauce is selective. I've also had the oyster po'boy before as well as their shrimp alfredo, both of which are also pretty good though I recall enjoying the po'boy better. For my service this afternoon, I was served well enough though I found that it was on the slow side, especially for the decent crowd at the restaurant when I visited. I was only able to get one refill on my Pepsi during my visit and with fried seafood I kinda wished my server visited at least a couple of times as fried seafood can be a bit salty and you need something to balance that out. Other than the speed of service, the server who attended to my table was courteous and made sure my order was filled accurately. Overall, I would say O'Crab is a pretty good place to go for seafood and Cajun, though as mentioned, I would like to see a couple of tweaks and improvements to push that rating up. So if you're in West Jordan and want some seafood that's good and you don't want to go to far off, this might just be your...
Read moreWe were excited that this place re-opened (as a different company) since we had good experience when it was Joe's Crab shack. But on our first (and now only) visit, we were severely disappointed.
The menu was more limited than we expected. I had a craving for crab cakes, so I ordered the crab cake sliders. It looked and tasted like something you would get from the freezer section of a grocery store. The calamari was probably the worst I've ever had that I remember, both in texture and flavor. The appetizers came out incorrectly and after our entrees were served. My wife didn't love the chicken caesar salad, and the kids didn't eat much of their food either. The prices were fairly cheap, but did add up to the point where it's not really much less than most of our other places we love. The service seemed like it was going to be good when we first arrived, but unfortunately went downhill from there.
Also, the main reason we used to go here is because our kids really liked to play on the outside playground while we waited for food to arrive. It's a cool unique feature for a restaurant. They excitedly ran to play but it really should have been closed off, because it was dangerously in disrepair (the slide was broken with large parts of jutting plastic sticking out). It looks like they're in the process of replacing the slide.
Just not a good experience at all, and we have crossed out this "new" place from our list of places we like...
Read moreWorst place in West Jordan to visit. Will not be returning. Came here on Friday night around 8 pm thinking it would be a nice night out after a long week, Service was extremely poor and slow, servers kept confusing the table, ordered calamari which was completely overcooked tough and no flavor was like eating rubber! Sent that back...Drinks Were overpriced and under flavored, entrees extremely terrible... Tasted like plastic food, no flavor, no seasonings whatsoever. Cajun chicken should taste like cajun chicken and like fried chicken tenders from the night before leftover from kids meals. Shrimp had no flavor to it whatsoever. We had ordered the Cajun shrimp and chicken pasta.
The server who ended up actually being a bartender kept forgetting half of the condiments that were asked for. I think he was completely blitzed out of his mind to be honest.. At least that's the appearance we got.
During our long wait for the check, there were a couple of teenager bussers horse playing around the different tables loudly and obnoxious. I'm all about having fun at work but there is a limit to when you're completely and rudely annoying the customers.
I can see why on a Friday night at 8:00 p.m. there was hardly anybody in there... I wonder how this place even stays open!!
Worst meal experience we have had in a very long time, save your money and go...
