If I could give zero stars I would. In my entire life I've never experienced such unwarranted defensivism and nastiness from a place of service. We looked online for a bookstore and coffee place, arrived at peddlers at 3: 3:30, plenty of time, so we went to get our coffee and were told that the coffee section was closed, and we stated that was surprising because it did not say that online. After that we heard the gals talking nasty about us, for no apparent reason other than we questioned the inability to get coffee before their advertised closing time. Paulina the manager was especially disgusting in her behavior. I've been in retail / service leadership for over 30 years and if one of my team members ever behavd like that towards a customer I would terminate their employment immediately. They really should go across the street and get some customer service lessons from the crew at Bullwinkle's restaurant, who are amazing by the way. Anyway, I put my three books down that I was intending to purchase, and we left the place and went over to Espresso West and had some great ice cream and coffee, that were delivered with amazing service. I would steer clear of peddlers if I were you.
EDIT: nobody was acting entitled besides your mgr. If another customer has an opinion that's fine, but they clearly did not witness your team talking amongst themselves about us and only saw our reaction to being treated poorly for no reason. And there was no scene, once we were told the coffee shop was closed, we kept shopping for books. It was only after my husband heard your team talking negatively about us that we responded to your team. As future potential patrons can see, you have a history of responding defensively to reviews about your teams rude behavior. I knew you would do the same thing on my review after reading other's. It is clear where your team gets their permission to treat their customers poorly. It's always interesting to see business owners defending their employees...
Read moreThis review is mainly for the café. I actually thought it was decently good. They did get very busy when we were there and it took a long time just to make our coffee that they already had brewed
All they needed to do was put into a cup. The guy helping the main person there was new and seemed to hold up the process as the gal had to explain every step. Even telling him that half n half is cream. 😦
I ordered the hummingbird salad and the Hubby had the German chocolate brownie. I did seek a few bites of the German chocolate brownie.
Hummingbird salad was decent. Wouldn't order it again, but it was ok. The spinach wasn't chopped and she didn't bring a knife so it was hard to eat it. She put it on such a shallow plate, and piled the spinach so high, the toppings kept falling onto the table. Someone didn't think that through. Annoying.
The German chocolate brownie was to die for. I got a side piece (not a center piece), so some parts of the brownie was hard, which was a bit off putting texture wise, but it was honestly still super yummy. It has all my favorite things, walnuts, coconut, a creamy like caramel flavor, and brownie. It was gigantic too!
I'd have it again and maybe try a few other sweet treats.
Ambiance and seating was old school bookstore style which I like, but the chairs weren't super comfortable so I couldn't just chill there for a while.
Their sweets ranged from $1.50-5.00.
Drinks start off around $2+
Sandwiches $6+

It's almost like a library, with coffee and Knick knacks. There's a table with stools that run along the wall with outlets that you can plug your electronic device in for charging. Everything is pretty good, welcoming. But then there's the service. Maybe it was the one time that I went there, so take it with a grain of salt. But it was slllloowww. I had 2 people in front of me, and I stood in that line for about 5 minutes. I can't imagine if I were in back of more people. And the prices, a little exorbitant. 9 dollars for a decent sized Croissant. Do you get anything with the pastry?...nope. almost 10 bucks. Was it good? Sure, but not 9 dollars good. But it is in West Yellowstone, and every shop out here is going to reach as far down your pocket as they can reach. So it's on par for the tourist trap like pricing. Is it worth it? For the internet, which has signs saying that you can only be there for an hour, but not enforced, (I was there for about 3, ordering things every now and then, so they got at least 30 bucks from me for a coffee and a couple of pastries). The coffee is okay, but you can get better in Gardiner at a super 8 hotel, which if you get an ice coffee, the ice is frozen coffee. Best idea ever!
Recommended? For the quaintness, stop on by, but you can...
