I haven't been spoken to like that for quite some time. I asked if they had a bigger room available with a fridge. I was told I should have known the room size when I booked some months before, that I had access to the communal fridge downstairs and that an Expedia booking made switching difficult/impossible. I was also told the age of the hotel again (111 years), I think as an excuse for the state/size of the hotel rooms when frankly this does not excuse investment (my house was built in 134 years ago and it's in much better condition). It is clear that I was instantly seen as 'one of those guys who complains' and was therefore treated in this manner. It turns out there were no rooms available for the number of nights we were staying. The minute I said that that was fine and that I would tell my wife that, the tone changed markedly. It changed completely when I further said that the reason for us asking was due to my wife being pregnant and that she didn't want to go up and down to the communal fridge (she's actually on blood thinning medication which she didn't want to keep in a communal fridge for obvious reasons). When the manager heard 'wife' and 'pregnancy' (I didn't get on to the medication) she went along to speak to my wife, presumably to cover herself for the way she had spoken to me. Of course I told my wife everything immediately. The fact is, customer service is customer service and I should have been treated respectfully regardless. On a further note, telling people you are the 4th generation owner doesn't garner the respect you think it does - it just makes you sound entitled - which the above conversation highlights perfectly. Making your guests angry is not...
Read moreI recently stayed in one of the hostel rooms here for the second time and I’ll absolutely keep coming back when I’m in the area. Firstly, the price is very reasonable considering that there’s a Yellowstone NP entrance quite literally right down the block. Getting an early start in the park is easy and stress-free. Secondly, the town itself is very charming and convenient. West Yellowstone has a more authentic and laid-back feel than Jackson and you can walk to basically any amenities that you may need, including a grocery store (also right down the block). Thirdly, the historic nature of this hotel makes your stay an experience in and of itself. This is not a hotel/hostel you are going to forget when you leave because it’s very unique and feels special. Fourthly, the staff here is wonderful. If you leave any additional notes on your reservation when you book online, they will not be overlooked. And the people at the front desk are just fun to talk to in general, and genuine, which is a lost art in hospitality these days. Finally, the hostel accommodations themselves are lovely. Sure, there’s shared bathrooms and showers for the hostel rooms, but I never had any issues accessing either during my entire stay. The rooms are small, but they are clean and cozy, and the beds are comfortable. Even though the building doesn’t have central air (which is very common in the area), it never felt too hot inside, even in the middle of an unusually hot summer. And the quiet hours were thankfully respected by all. Honestly, I’ll never forget this place and I’ll happily return here for...
Read moreVery clean and historic hotel with a great location. The staff was truly amazing and very professional and hospitable. The rooms were very small however I knew this going into my stay as they clearly made this advisable. It was perfect for a 1 to 2 night stay. The historic section of the hotel is more like a bed-and-breakfast and had a lot of character and charm. I stayed in the back motel section which was simply a no thrills experience but everything that I needed was in the room plus more. Parking was super convenient right outside my door, there was outdoor seating, the bedding was very comfortable, air conditioning worked well even though it wasn’t needed much, shower was a walk-in shower that was perfect size for me and I am a large person, and all of the amenities including a fridge was in the room. Again this is a Destiination where you pay top dollar during the high season for a mom and pop type motel which do not have five star amenities. If you understand this then you will have a pleasant stay at this hotel/motel/inn. As an added bonus I received a food voucher which was good for dinner or breakfast in the restaurant next-door. This was a nice added surprise and the food was truly amazing – one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. Very simple property with nice people. I would highly recommend this Property, just remember to not expect a four-star property as they do not claim to be. But remember they do a great job with everything that is expected from...
