I don’t usually leave reviews, but my experience at the Dude and Roundup Motel in West Yellowstone was so unpleasant that I feel obligated to warn others.
First off, the main door of our room had a 2-inch gap at the bottom, which meant every kind of bug and critter wandered in at night, drawn by the room light. It was impossible to feel comfortable or relaxed.
The Wi-Fi was practically useless — one bar at best, frequently disconnecting, forcing me to reconnect over and over again. Forget about streaming or getting any work done.
The bathroom door didn’t even close properly because the doorknob and latch were completely misaligned. I had to prop my luggage against the door just to get some privacy while showering. The bathroom itself was tiny and poorly maintained — the vinyl floor was loose, nailed down at the corners, and wobbly everywhere.
The room was far from clean. There were mysterious stains on the carpet that looked like coffee or maybe even blood, and the overall hygiene was awful. On top of that, there were no amenities whatsoever — no fridge, no microwave, no iron, and not even an ironing board.
To make things worse, communication with the front desk was frustrating, as the lady there spoke almost no English, making even simple requests feel like a chore.
We had booked the room a month in advance and were stuck for three miserable nights. The only positive thing I can say is that they had hot water in the shower. Everything else was pathetic service, poor hygiene, and zero comfort.
I would never recommend this motel to anyone. Stay literally anywhere else if you can — sleeping in your car might even be a...
Read more$200/night for a substandard motel. I know we were paying for the location (Yellowstone) and definitely not the amenities. The room was clean, other than a few spots on the dingy carpet floor. The bathroom fixtures were fairly new and water pressure in the shower was good. The TV was a newer flat-screen, however, the satellite service left much to be desired. The reception was good but very few channels were allowed under their subscription service. Okay, okay - we weren't there to watch TV, but it's something of note. The toilet water pressure left much to be desired as well and we needed to request a plunger on the first day. We tried calling from the room, but no one would answer. My husband had to walk across the street to the office (where it was just the desk worker - no guests) and ask for a plunger. The response was, "all the other plungers are checked out so you'll need to bring this one back." :-O We attempted to check-in early. Though we understand this is never a guarantee, we watched as the cleaning crew cleaned empty rooms and moved on to the next room... there were definitely clean, empty rooms available. We stopped by 3 times to see if a room had opened up. The desk worker didn't call the cleaning crew nor check the computer and would simply repeat, "I don't know if any of the rooms are clean. Check-in is at 3pm." Was the room worth $200/night? I guess it was better than sleeping on the street, but generally, no. Was the room clean and comfortable? Yes. Could the customer service be...
Read moreOverall, this place was okay. Adequate. Nothing special. We just needed a place to sleep.
The location was as good as you can get without being in the park. It is the last street before you enter the park — you can even see the park boundary on the other side of the street!!!
The front desk was reluctant to assist us on checking on our room’s availability for an early check-in. Our car was packed to the brim and I needed to change my baby. Only when I was getting ready to change her right there in the lobby, did the front desk staff check to see if our room was ready. She had previously just quoted a 3 pm check-in time at us without looking into the room’s status.
There were a few ants in our room, but it was pretty clean. The bed was okay. The TV was the old tube-style. They had cable or satellite, but had super-limited channel selection. A good share of the channels were sales channels.
There’s no breakfast. Parking is free, which is handy with its close-proximity to busy diners. The price was good for the area, but horrible for what you get. There are soap dispensers by the sink and in the shower (no personal travel containers). There was a mini fridge, coffee maker, and microwave.
I’d consider staying again, but can’t say there is anything but location that is impressive...
