After a long day in yellowstone, my girlfriend and I wanted nothing more than a big, tasty meal. After a quick Google search we opted for canyon street grill as it had a decent average. Here is how our experience was:
The ambience of cheesey old cars and tacky seats had us nervous, but we persisted. The menu had several delcious looking items. I ordered a burger with "bacon" and a honey mustard bbq sauce. Girlfriend ordered a grilled cheese with her pick of 3 cheeses. We both paid extra to make our fries chili cheese style. Sounds great right?
As a side note, took about 10 minutes to order, and about 20 more to get our food. During that 20 minutes I ordered a coffee which I never got, bUT was charged for.
On to the food. Her grilled cheese was barely toasted, yet very crunchy, as in stale bread crunchy. It was also very clearly just American cheese with a dab of Swiss, she did not order American.
My burger seemed to have been boiled. It was crumbly, zero flavor, and far from medium rare. If you are into chewy bits of tendon, it might be your thing... the bacon was made up of tiny bits of hard, thin bacon, and the bbq sauce was truly horrible, but maybe that was just my sense of taste, so we will let that slide.
The chili cheese fries were under done fries, a small bit of beans with some burger meat, and a touch of cheese.
When we left I was essentially accused of lying about the coffee I never got. The owners seem to complain about people not specifying what they can do different, so here it is in a nutshell:
Better service, better prices, and way better food that doesn't come from a freezer would all help.
There's a handful of good restaurants in w yellowstone, I'd highly suggest looking elsewhere unless overpriced, bad food, and grumpy staff...

We’ve visited this restaurant before and have always loved the food, which is why we returned a few days ago with my husband and son. Unfortunately, this visit was completely different and incredibly unsettling.
From the moment we arrived, we noticed the staff was different, and something felt very off. One man in particular, a very tall, large gentleman kept staring at my husband and son in a way that made us all extremely uncomfortable. His gaze was intense, invasive, and frankly inappropriate. It was not the typical “curious customer” glance, it felt intrusive and borderline predatory.
To make matters worse, when he came to our table, he brushed his hand over my husband’s hand. That, combined with the continued staring, put all of us on edge. We decided right then to ask for our food To-Go, because we no longer felt safe staying.
Our waitress, Kay, also seemed distracted and somewhat disconnected. I don’t want to speculate about her state, but something felt off. At one point, we noticed the man who had made us uncomfortable whispering with her. She then gave him a thumbs up while glancing in our direction, which only added to the unease.
As a mother, my instincts told me something was not right. It wasn’t just bad service or an awkward interaction, it felt deeply inappropriate and unsettling, especially with how this man looked at my son and husband.
This experience ruined what should have been a peaceful family meal. While the food remains excellent, we will not be returning. I hope other families are spared a situation like this. No one should have to feel creeped out or unsafe...
Read moreI was absolutely appalled with the lack of service and hospitality provided at this establishment. We arrived at midday, the place was completely empty with no other guests.
Our son has an egg allergy and we queried a particular meal on the children’s menu, our server could not understand a word we were saying, and I had to rephrase this question 5 times, to which she answered it was her first day and her English was poor and we were her first customers.
We then asked for assistance from the other server, mature aged woman with glasses and we explained our dietary restrictions and asked about the cheeseburger, she left to ask in the kitchen and came back to confirm “there is egg in the cheese and it’s dairy”, I confirmed with her that dairy and egg are two different things and cheese does not contain egg. I then asked if she could confirm if the patty or bread contained egg, I mentioned that I just needed support in navigating her menu and anything she could do would be helpful so that we could feed our 2 year old son. She rolled her eyes, huffed and went back into the kitchen. At this time, we knew we were not welcomed.
She returned and confirmed there was egg in the bread, they can offer grilled chicken and salad or a beef patty with salad and that the chef was too busy to provide anymore information or to help any further.
We packed our things and left, absolutely disgusted in the lack of hospitality provided by this server, the chef and this establishment. We were not trying to be difficult, we were asking for simple support in understanding which meals may be safe to feed our son.
We will not be returning or recommending to any...
