Just left this place with my wife after enjoying a midday meal. This was our first time eating here. We ordered the polenta and pear as an app, she had the chicken orecchiette, i had the duck confit gnocchi, we shared a panna cotta and a codial coffee for dessert. The bill was 95$. I will be giving this place a second chance, but here are the reasons for 2 stars and details i am dissapointed with as a chef of almost 15 years. Maybe i just came on the wrong day.
The pear and polenta app was executed perfectly, well balanced and delicious. I can not wait to order this again. 9.5/10
The ingredients in our entrees were premium. It was apparent that the head chef is very concious of the quality of ingredients and it showed in the dishes. However, when the gnocchi arrived, they in no way resembled gnocchi. I know they can be difficult to make/store, but the small piles of wet dough beneath the vegtables displayed a clear lack of ability to execute a dish that costs upwards of 28$. How did that leave the kitchen? Additionally, portions of the duck were dry and chewy. If completely submerged and prepared correctly, the meat's moitsture and texture should be consistent throughout. 3/10
The chicken orecchiette was much better. Preimium ingredients shown through to highlight a well organized pasta dish with balanced flavors, distracted only by dry chicken 7.5/10
The panna cotta was not set correctly and was the consistency of a watery pudding. I also found what appeared to be coffee grounds in bottom of the container. Upon further inspection, it turned out to be chocolate remnants. I was assured it was intentional, but i would be surprised to learn that the head chef intended to have a small amount of ground chocolate in the bottom of the cup of a zesty berry vanilla panna cotta, wether set correctly or otherwise. 4/10
The drinks were fantastic, the service was brisk, the menu looks promising, the owner clearly cares, but the execution of the food was extremely dissappointing. After reviewing the menu before our meal, i was excited to come back soon to try the scallops and another of the risotto dishes, but now id rather give it a couple weeks to think about risking that amount of money on something that could be as poorly executed as the gnocchi.
Higher-end dining shouldn't be a gamble. We were ready to make this place our go to weekly date night spot. We will be back to give this place another shot...
Read moreFirst off I work at the Orchard mall, and I have customers come in and tell me how amazing this place is and that I NEED to try it. So what better time to try this "amazing" place than on Valentine's Day! So my husband and I went and it was about 7 o'clock and I know we didn't have a reservation so I knew we would have to wait. Well the hostess said we can sit at the bar..so we did. The Bartender (who was very friendly) was very busy but when he had the chance he got our drinks..as we were looking around we noticed that everyone had bread and oil and vinegar, and every girl has a rose as they were sat...we got niether. So to us that was strike one because we kinda felt as if because we didn't have a reservation we kinda got tossed to the bar and didn't get treated as well as the others did. Next we ordered the mushroom Risotto...waited about 30-40 minutes for it. It was literally so gross I had to gag it down. After about another 30 min we finally got our order taken... I had gotten the Shrimp Alfredo and he got Spagetti with meatballs...after we waited another 45 min for our food we finally got it. Mind you this place is NOT cheap, (about $25+ for a meal). Our food was HORRIBLE! You don't get very much food, and honestly I make better Spagetti at home. My Shrimp Alfredo had about 6 small shrimp in it and our food was cold. I asked for a side of marinara and it was also cold. Now that is it about 8:30-8:45 ish, we were pretty upset, We wanted to try the desert so we ended up ordering the Smore Panna Cotta. When he brought it looked really good so we were excited because it actually looked appetizing. When we took a bite it tasted like out of the box chocolate pudding. We didn't finish the desert, we just asked for our bill. At this time it was 9:15, we finally left and I definitely would never eat here again after 2 1/2 hours of terrible food...
Read moreI was excited to try this restaurant as the menu looked amazing. Very disappointed. When I walked in my friend was waiting at a table and the only patron in the restaurant. I had previously checked the menu so I knew it was spendy but Italian food is my favorite and I am always looking for a simple and delicious pasta dish like I had in Rome. At $20 for a simple Fettuccine Marinara, I anticipated it would be perfect…it wasn’t. The fettuccine was more like spaghetti (which I didn’t mind) but was expecting more of the width of fettuccine. It was a small portion too and just pasta and sauce, no frills or basil or anything to make it look like it should cost $20. Plus, the pasta was slightly overcooked. My friend enjoyed her $29 penne and sausage. There is no offering of bread with olive oil, when we asked our server responded that we have to pay for it…we both said at these prices it should be complimentary. The Pinot ($13.00 for a glass) I ordered was delicious. They’re aren’t many offerings by the glass and the bottle prices are a little pricey at $38 for the least expensive, so we also tried a flight. It’s important to note here that a flight is 3 glasses and we both had one, so that makes 6 glasses on the table that were never removed once they were empty. The restaurant wasn’t busy enough (3 other tables with parties of 2-4) to warrant leaving empty glasses on the table. The background classical music was lovely, however the decor is very plain and consisted of a row of Illy coffee cans up towards the ceiling which then forces one to see the large cobwebs by your table of which I am glad I noticed this...
