Let me start by saying, the cake is delicious. No doubt about it. That is the sole reason for me to go there.
However, every of my visits to this outlet has been unwelcoming and somewhat depressing. It's not like i storm to the store like a crazy mad lady, in fact i actually came in happy, cheery and greeted the sales people FIRST. Instead of receiving a nice warm greeting, none of the people behind the counter smile or took hid of my presence. The store was empty, nobody was there except another couple who was just leaving after a purchase. I was the only customer there yet i was treated as if i was invisible. When i went up to one of them, he (or is it a she) pretended to be busy doing some paperwork and i have to say 'hi, excuse me', and he lazily responded 'yes can i help youuuuuu'
And i told him, i was an eclub member and from what ive been told from the website that you get a free bundlet on your birthday. And he ask if i get a notification on my email, and i said no because ive check many times and i did not get any email from them.
But I KNOW i am an eclub member because i received newsletters all the time. He looked at me as if im a fraud.
So i told him its okay im just going to purchase a cake and i brb with my husband because he was waiting in the car. Came back with my husband and baby and they both look at us like we are not welcome here.
So my husband said we are going to purchase the red velvet. The salesperson took the cake and my husband paid for it. He didn't say thank you or have a nice day or happy birthday. Nothing. We left and they go back doing whatever they were doing..nothing.
It's depressing for a happy looking bakery. My birthday felt depressing, my (our) presence felt unwelcome.
I really hate to say this, but it felt as if its because of my skin color. Walnut creek is predominantly a white upper class shopping area, and i can understand why perhaps that is the reason i was unwelcome.
I was there on 12/03 at around 3pm.
This visit was the worst of all...
Read moreO stars for the lie. While listening to NBC's music on hold, I hear "we only use the finest ingredients." LIE. NBC uses nasty highly refined cheap garbage Canola Oil. Please stop! It costs almost nothing to use healthy chemical-free expeller pressed Canola. I love your sweet desserts and I don't need them with a side of hexane or glyphosate, and that includes your use of highly refined 'enriched' flour. Update after reading store reply below that again states they "use the finest ingredients"...you use 'real' ingredients (eggs, butter, cream cheese), not 'the finest' (organic pasture raised eggs, organic grass-fed butter), but the deal breaker is you use the WORST highly refined Canola seed oil. I loved your cakes for the past 5 years, but I can't 'give you another chance' because this one ingredient is toxic trash that should not be in your cakes. Update your ingredients to "Expeller Pressed Canola Oil" and then my doctor will let me come back! This is a plea for you to do the right thing. Do you part to not harm your...
Read moreI had a job interview here a few weeks ago and I am appaled at how they handled it. To start, the owner of the store was late due to traffic, that part I can overlook. However, I can't overlook how I was asked to wash dishes for 20 minutes as a part of the interview. It was explained to me over email that I was supposed to dress in work clothes for the interview since I would be performing some work tasks during the interview. It was strange to request, but whatever. Washing dishes in the back without even having a full conversation with the head baker should not be part of the interviewing process. I applied to be the head bakers assistant not a dishwasher. I wasn't offered any monetary compensation for that labor or even a job offer for any position. Giving someone a free bundt cake that isn't even that good shouldn't EVER count as compensation. I should have walked out since no one in that kitchen seemed happy or content with their jobs. I really don't suggest applying...
