My wife and I decided to grab a late snack and a drink, living within close proximity and based on a google search we decided to tryout @Tiller’s Kitchen. According to the information on google and @Marriot website the bar was open till 1am, we arrived around 12am, sat down and decided to grad 1 drink with a possible snack. The bar had one waitress who was busy chatting with a table, tried to get her attention once she was done only to have her roll her eyes at us and tell us she will be right with us. Shortly after, the waitress did pass by with a smile one her face as she approached us and then passed right by or table before she continued straight back to the same table she was chatting with to continue her chat (I am assuming to ensure she gets a good tip by smooching that table). Finally, the waitress comes to our table and asks us what can I start you with guys (a simple hello, welcome to... is not necessary, but can make some feel welcomed specially after the have been snubbed twice). I asked the waitress if they were still serving any snacks, the waitress had this to say “No, actually we are closed and the only reason we are open is because there are some people still here from the earlier wedding” mind you it was still not 12:30am, let alone 1am which is closing time. My wife and I got up to walk out in order not to ruin our night by being disrespected by the waitress and I said “Thank you very much, we will be leaving, I think you have made your point very clear by making us feel unwanted here” She did not even flinch and said “Yah, well I am sure you can find someplace else around here that can deliver food or something”. It is important to note that my wife and I were well dressed and had not had any previous drinks etc. And provided no reason what’s so ever for this obnoxious behavior, not that there is ever a good reason for a person to behave with such lack of civility. We went from there to another upscale bar close by that provided an exceptional service, and the waitress received a generous tip that was well earned. @Marriot, this standard of service and employee training is below par, and I do hope our experience is not repeated with any other guests that might find their way to @Tiller’s Kitchen. This happened on 12-12:30am Aug 5th 2018. Incase there is any doubt to who the waitress in...
Read moreMy neighbor suggested a visit to the establishment known as Tiller's Kitchen and Bar, located at the Marriott on Church Ranch Blvd. between Boulder and Denver. I arrived on a Tuesday evening to meet an acquaintance from Louisiana and check it out. There was well lit parking out front. The restaurant can be entered from outside, without passing through the hotel lobby. When the weather warms up, a table on the outside patio should be considered.
The front room of Tiller's is an inviting, warmly lit spacious bar with high ceiling. The far wooden wall is scorched with regional ranch brands. The staff was attentive and friendly; Kate offered either the bar room or the quieter dining room as alternatives. A small table for two next to the glassed-in fire looked good to me. The ambience was lively and comfortable without feeling crowded.
The cocktail menu had a number of items that looked tasty. Two stylish Old Fashioned recipes, and variations on other current drink themes were enticing. There's quite a long list of fine whiskeys to choose from. For me, a couple of drams of Dream Stream barrel-aged gin served neat became an aromatic forest journey. I was told it's distilled right here in Colorado. Later, the Eberle Cabernet prepared the senses for the flavorful food ahead, without overdoing the tannins.
For starters, Brussels sprouts of Belgian fame, braised and adorned with pomegranate, agave nectar and red chili flakes made a very good opening impression. That was followed by chicken wings in a Jamaican jerk glaze--absolutely delicious. As it happened to be Taco Tuesday the chef sent out incredibly tasty tacos-- small flour tortillas holding a generous dollop of shrimp, gently simmered in a mild coconut curry sauce with fresh cilantro on top. Brilliant. Kate told me they were produced by chef Kenny, master of the cuisine.
Other plates that call out to be tried are the Boulder Caesar Salad, the Mushroom Bolognese, Bourbon-glazed salmon, and Wagyu flatiron steak. Which contender though should replace the Brush Creek Wagyu Burger at the top of the list of Plates?
Looking forward to...
Read moreArrived with a reservation for 7:15. We were seated and then proceeded to do nothing but sit until 8:15. The only real worker who showed any care or consideration for anyone was the wonderful woman refilling everyones waters. The “waitress” came by and asked if we had been helped yet, we told her no and then said she would put in an order for us, two pizzas, nothing crazy. Hungry and getting bored, my partner and I watched in anticipation hoping our food would come out, but no. We then proceeded to sit until nearly 9 when our food arrived. Oh and getting the check? That was an entire issue in itself. We sat for even longer waiting for someone to come check on us. Unable to flag anyone down (there was quite literally no staff to be seen) I had to go to the bar and collect my tab, where the bar tender rudely handed me my bill, he seemed annoyed. Me and you both pal. Did I want to pay for my bill? No, and I wasn’t the only one, they were comping people’s meals left and right. The only reason I paid full price for this hilarity of a dining experience was for the simple fact that getting a manager involved would’ve taken all damn night and I had already lost more than two hours of my life that unfortunately I will never get back. Save your time, money, energy and sanity and literally go anywhere else. I’m serious. Anywhere. Else. You can get better pizza at MOD down the street...
